Challenging 3 Days

DC was away for a boot camp for 3 days and he went away worrying whether I could cope with the two kids at home alone...

Indeed, it was a very challenging task as DC and I shared half the parenting work each and every day since B was born. Life without him was unimaginable! It didn't help that the 3 of us (A, B and me) were sick!

The 3 days passed by quickly. DC returned today and received our welcoming and warm hugs. I'm happy to announce that I survived these 3 days without much issue! *Proud* :P

But, I've to admit that I did not do it alone. I had lots of help from our families! Thank God for that!

If you are interested, the details are as follows:

Day 1 (Thursday, 26 Jul 2012):
FIL came in the morning to help out. He looked after B while I fed A. Then, I carried B and walked to the nanny's while FIL brought A to his childcare centre. I was working from home that day and at 5+pm, I picked up a call from my FIL telling me that he was coming home as my boy seemed feverish and didn't want to eat. My mum came in the evening to help out. When we went home after our dinner and after picking B, we saw A at home drinking his milk. My maid told me that he was very lethargic before I came back but when he saw me, he was energized! So sweet! I was relieved that he did not have fever. Seeing that he didn't have any food for dinner, my mum cooked fish soup noodles for him and he slurped half of the bowl up! I was glad that his appetite came back but I didn't want him to finish the whole bowl as it was late already and he had to sleep. Coaxing B to sleep was not as easy as I expected as she rejected my mum when she tried to feed her and cried for me. I didn't know she need me specifically to feed her! Fortunately, my tired A slept very quickly and I took over to feed B and brought her to bed, not very far from her usual sleeping time. In the middle of the night, B woke up many many times and I had very limited sleep! :(

Day 2 (Friday, 27 Jul 2012):
I didn't let A go to his childcare centre as he was having runny nose. FIL came in the morning and A only woke up just before I came home from sending B to her nanny's. FIL left when I fed A his milk (he didn't know I was on MC too). He brought lunch for me. A had difficulty taking his nap as his nose was blocked. I had to carry him and he slept on my shoulders. At night, my mum came first and had dinner with me at home (my maid cooked) and my sis came after her dinner. Sis fetched all of us to pick B up. B, like the day before, rejected her milk feed and cried for me. No choice, I had to carry B in the room (A gave his permission to bring his sister in) to feed her. A slept pretty fast even with his sister in the room with him. B slept after an additional milk feed. Day 2 was more manageable as I knew what to expect after Day 1 and I had more help. This night, B slept through and woke up only at 5am. I was more well rested. :)

Day 3 (Saturday, 28 Jul 2012):
DC thought he could come home by noon but didn't know that it would take him until 5.30pm to get home! This was the most challenging day as both A and B were at home! Mum's the best as she came over to help out unconditionally these 3 days. B woke up way before A woke up. When A woke up, B was already fed and I placed her in A's bed for some bonding session with the brother. When mum came over, it was nicely lunch time and I fed A while she carried B (B was getting used to her and didn't actually complain much!). When A napped, I fed B and she had her nap too. When A woke up with his blocked nose, mum carried him. When he was awake, mum helped carry B and I entertained A with activities and bonded with him. The day past quickly and when DC came home, we already opened the door (at the cue of our maid who saw DC's car from the window) to welcome him. We waved at him from the room's window and A was very happy to see his beloved father home! Day 3 was tough but it's all about time management and getting help!
