Lunch at Carousel

Pulled off a lunch and movie event in just 1.5 weeks for a group of 50! So proud of ourselves (me and another colleague)! :)

Lunch was at Carousel at Royal Plaza on Scotts. The spread (halal) was quite good!

There were additional people who came and there was a moment where there were not enough seats... something to take note of in future!

Tsuta

Seeing that there was no queue, my colleagues and I went in to try out this restaurant dubbed as the "World's first (and the only one) Michelin Starred Ramen Restaurant".

It had a small seating capacity of only less than 20 (18 to be exact), all counter seats. I like it that the cost of one bowl of ramen was comparable to the other common ramen restaurants outside including our favorite ramen restaurant!

There were only 2 types of ramen available - Shoyu (soya sauce) or Shio (salt). Easy choice enough for me, I chose the Shoyu - broth contained beef, veg, clams, etc.

Truffle Shoyu Ramen with egg, how about that?
PS: Did you see the black truffle in the picture above? I gulped that up first, haha..

Just look at my satisfied look! :D

The other I later found out contained chicken, seafood and salt. The former was already quite salty, I couldn't imagine how the latter would taste like with Okinawa sea salt, Mongolian rock salt and green olives (instead of truffle!)!!

My colleagues didn't seem to enjoy it very much, some were neutral about it but I thought I might want to return for another bowl! Maybe with DC? :)

Anniversary at Andre

There was always a hype with Andre. We first tried his creations at Jaan back in 2009. Quite impressed, especially with the Snickers dessert.

For our wedding ROM anniversary this year, we decided to give it a try. I had to make reservations about 3 weeks earlier to secure a booking for lunch. There is also a deposit to confirm that reservation. The 5 course set menu is priced at $198++.

Semi-hidden entrance to Andre. Valet parking is available for $8. I would have preferred it to be complimentary, like what Gunther's provided. It's a rather small and cosy place. Probably about 10 tables or so.

Seafood tamara with gluten bun

I don't even know where to start? Do you even eat the leaves?

Abalone, liver, cripsy kombu, fish n chips

I can only say each portion is delicately small. I probably give a thumbs up to the presentation and the thought that went into each dish.

Dry aged scallop, textures of mushroom and toufu

Oyster tartare, pork broth

I quite like this. The butternut squash is crunchy and goes well with the beef tongue and sauce. Slurped it all up.
Burnt beef tongue salad, ruban of butternut squash.
Baked chicken breast in bread. This made the chicken meat very tender, unlike the normal expectation of breast meat.
Salt baked poulet

Something special for the occasion.

Seems more like a snack ...
Milk skin, buttermilk curd

A music box to go with dessert but it's meaning is lost on me ...

Honey ice-cream on raspberry ice.

Not a very well-done latte art. $10++, not worth.

Petit Fours

With the chef himself. It's really good that he came out to meet the clients. It's always good to see the face behind the fine food.

Ah Boy's birthday lunch

Ah Boy turns 13 and gave a lunch treat at Mandarin Orchard hotel.
Happy 13th Birthday, Boy!
It was a great meal, the kids were behaving well and it was always nice to gather outside once in a while!

Us with our kids... this time, it was B and I who wore the same, unlike all times where A and DC wore exactly the same! Hehe...

After the meal, we brought the kids back for their naps. They had our permission to skip their lessons this afternoon. ;) We brought them downstairs to ride their kiddy car instead and they loved it!

Wedding Anniversary

It was our wedding anniversary today and we totally forgot about it! Totally!

DC was resting at home trying to heal his swollen knee. Somehow, DC decided to meet me for lunch, somehow we chose a fine dining restaurant that we always wanted to try and somehow, DC suddenly remembered that today's our wedding anniversary in the middle of the course!

Thanks God! Otherwise we will be thinking that it was just a normal weekday and regretting that we didn't remember it at all! :)

I like the restaurant decor and the cutlery they used. Different from the usual; there's a fish tank and a rock with knife on it on every table!

There were 2 types of menu to choose from - either French or Japanese.

Birthday Lunch at Au Jardin

Here's us at Au Jardin celebrating my birthday. DC found out that the restaurant was going to close down soon and so brought me back for a treat on him. :)

Us at Au Jardin :)
The last time we were there, B weren't even born yet. I still enjoyed the food there and of course, the greenery out of the windows! :)

Lush greenery

Here's what we ordered:
Mud crab salad with caviar

Foie gras
Hokkaido scallops with truffles!

Black Angus striploin, slightly tough ...

DC posted this on his fb (sweet!) and I wished for the same too! :)

Birthday Lunch

A year older and 4 yrs later, I'm back at Les Amis to celebrate my birthday. Lately, we weren't too happy with the fine dining establishments that we tried. Atelier Joel Robuchon, Iggy's, Gunther's and Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora were all disappointments.

I'm glad to say we enjoyed it. We took the $96++ menu and also top up $52++ for a cold angel-hair pasta to share. Money well spent for a good lunch!

Nice warm bread with salted and unsalted butter

Aubergine (eggplant) Fondant with Avocado Coulis
Distinctive colour of avocado was evident. The little flowers reminded me of Tatsuya. Slightly salty but it was good.

Cold Angel Hair Pasta
Ordered this as ala-carte for $52++. So so. The pasta wasn't really "springly" or QQ. Wasn't really cold too. Preferred that from Gunther's.

Pan-seared Scallop with Bordier Seaweed Butter
Nice with sea salt spread underneath the shell for the extra dip of taste to go along.

Steamed Blue Crab on Lobster Custard, Garnished with Caviar & Fennel Foam
Custard here simply means chawanmushi.

Hungarian Charcoal-grilled Pork Rack with Carrots Confit
Nicely presented carrot slices surrounding the mash potato. It tasted very much like the "signature" Joel Robuchon's mashed potato :) I wished I could have one more portion of the pork though ...

Angel Hair Pasta with Lobster, Cripsy Sakura Ebi & a Touch of Parmesan
CP had this. Passable only.

Fresh Sollies Figs with a Light Olive Oil Cake and Honey-fig Ice-cream
Something different. Quite refreshing. FIrst time I tried figs. I heard they had a patissier now, who seemed to be doing things right :)

Warm Reine-Claude Plum Souffle with Plum-Yoghurt Sorbet
CP had this. Nice, warm and fluffy. Good match with the sorbet.

A birthday surprise from the restaurant
Too sour for me. I let CP finished it.

Dine next to the Ocean

The closest we can ever get to dining with the fishes here. Lunch was at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora before the staycation at Hotel Michael starts. It was quite difficult to reserve a table as I guessed due to the small number of tables.

As usual, the kids were having all the fun.

It's good they could accommodate children, although mine were a bit noisier than most ...

A set meal was S60++ with starter, main and dessert. There was a minimum spending of $38++ if you went ala carte.

The BAD - They didn't serve water, you had to ordered a bottle, juices or soft drinks. This is outrageous and it would keep me from going back ever. Food portions were small as well and you wouldn't be filled at the end of it.

Mesclun Salad - Roasted beetroot, Goat Cheese, Walnut & Lemon Vinaigrette

Cabbage & Bacon Soup - Chicken Liver Mousse, Toasted Brioche & Truffle Oil

Tuna Tartare - Apple, Cucumber & Avocado

Braised Boneless Wagyu Short Rib - Celeriac Puree, Sauteed Mushroom & Caramelized Oatmeal

Cripsy Kurobuta Pork Belly - Sauerkraut Puree, Sauteed Savoy Cabbage & Mustard
This is good, crispy on the outside and tender inside.

Poached King Salmon - Leek Puree, Confit Potato & Sea Urchin Emulsion

The desserts were worth finishing with.

Mont Blanc - Hazelnut Meringue, Chestnut Paste & Vanilla Ice-cream

Chocolate Passion - Banana Stew, 68% Cocoa Ice Cream & Passion Fruit Espuma

Vacherin - Textures of Strawberry & Creme Fraiche
