Kids First Trip to Pulau Ubin

We hesitated to take the kids there initially but glad that we made it there!

It was the kids' first outing with their cousins, ours too! In fact, we didn't expect such a big group (24 of us including 8 kids)! We gathered at Changi for breakfast at the hawker centre before heading there in batches by boat...

A & B enjoyed the trip very much! No mosquito bites at all, probably because it was a public holiday, there were a lot of people there.

A liked the van ride (A sat in front with DC) while B liked the boat ride. I couldn't imagine how we could squeeze ourselves in a van to and fro Chek Jawa, all 24 of us, ha! the boat ride was much more comfortable with 12 in a boat.

A wild boar greeted us the moment we got down from the van!

At Chek Jawa, A walked on his own and B mostly carried by me on the boardwalk and we took lots of pictures... of the swamp, mangroves, boardwalk and us together! :)

Memories flowed back when we were at the House at Chek Jawa! DC and I visited the place in 2007 and hadn't returned since! How wonderful to return with the kids now. :)

After that, we went back to Changi and settled our hungry stomachs at the Ubin First Stop Restaurant. The food there was surprisingly good!

Fireflies in the Sky

As we are walking back to our block, something caught our eyes in the park ahead of us.

Something bright, flying in the sky and there were 4 of them, of different colours. :) They were kites! But they ain't ordinary kites. They were lit up!

We brought the kids closer to the park and watched them roamed in the dark sky for a while. I love the sight of them!  I call them dragons in the sky. I was beaming with joy to have seen it in action and felt happy whenever I thought of them! :D

And, of course I took out my camera to capture the moment:

Rainbow Sightings

I bumped into rainbows just one week apart in the most usual place - Bus stop!

Other than the sky, would you expect to find rainbows in the following places?

1. On a bench?

2. On the floor and I saw two!

Rainbows, don't they just make your day feel good? :)

Long Queue at J8

When I was queuing for bubble tea, I saw 2 Filipinos each with red freezer bags. I thought they were going picnic with the bubble tea.

When we walked out of the supermarket, one auntie requested us to give her our receipt. I thought she wanted to enter the lucky draw.

When I was about to queue for the lucky draw dip at the info-counter, another auntie stopped me and told me to rush upstairs 2nd floor for freebies. I thought she was kidding me.

Then, when we were walking out of J8, we saw lots of people with the red bags. I finally dawned upon me that the above were all connected!

The first ladies had already gotten the freebies.
The second auntie wanted to redeem the freebies.
The last auntie got hers and shared with me so that I could also collect the freebies!

We didn't queue for it. The line was crazily long! We didn't even get the sure-win dip. The queue was very long too!

When we reached home and told my in-laws, mil volunteered to collect on our behalf. So off she went there alone but came back empty-handed! The goodies from CP were all given out and the gifts (cushion) was fully redeemed!

Why no crowd?

DC and I walked past this cafe and saw this sign:

No outside food and drinks...
No studying in premises...
No using of laptop...

No wonder no crowd! :P

I like rain but not flood

The day Orchard Road turned into Orchard River...

About 100mm of rain fell in the central parts of Singapore between 8am and 11am today. This was more than 60 per cent of the average monthly rainfall for June.

I was one of the many affected by the heavy downpour. At near lunch time, I heard my colleagues speculating why there was a traffic jam when they saw the immovable vehicles from their window. Then, at lunch time, we knew from a colleague that the whole Orchard road was closed. We couldn't go anywhere for lunch, so we settled lunch at the next-door hotel! A lousy day for those who were trapped in Orchard Rd but we, on the other hand had a good reason to enjoy our lunch. Because of the weather and ambiance of the restaurant, it feels like a lazy day. Wished I was snuggled under my blanket then! Some of my colleagues even had their external meetings canceled as there were no way for them to reach us.

I never thought Orchard Rd could be flooded. Lesson learnt: Never never take things for granted!

Floor Ads

Something caught my eyes when I was on the way to the library last week. When I looked down, I saw these:

To the Rescue

Since last week, the air con system in our server room cannot cool the servers down effectively. Yesterday, the temperature hit a record high of 31ºC! All systems were ordered to be taken down and the rescue team managed to bring down the temperature by channeling the hot air elsewhere... What a sight!

My system testing was halted twice because of this issue, I hope the upcoming replacement of the cooling system would resolve the problem!

R.I.P.

Just last Friday at 5pm, I saw it scurried for cover.

On Monday, when I saw it again at 5pm, I had the greatest shock in my life! It was stuck at the edge of the door, there's dried blood around it, its skin blackened and it lay there motionless and crushed!

Rest In Peace, Lizard!

Poles Apart

This year, Orchard Road and Marina Bay will have different themes (instead of just one) and will extend to the Singapore river as well.

X'mas is actually at our doorsteps!

This is what DC sees when he steps out of office at 7pm:

The Christmas light-up at Marina Bay themed "A Glitzy Christmas by the Bay" takes inspiration from the mythological tale of the Midas’ Touch where oceanic design elements like waves and a bejewelled clam motif turn into a glittering gold extravaganza, symbolising royalty and abundance, and suitable for the year-end holiday season...

This is what I see when I step out of office at 7pm:

The Christmas light-up on Orchard Road is themed “A Christmas All Decked Out” to showcase fashion as one of the key experiences of shopping on Orchard Road. Various snowmen, reindeers and even Santa Claus have been given style makeovers and are decked up in the latest fashions of the season.

DC and I are definitely in different worlds, at different ends of the stretch of long road, we are many many poles apart! His x'mas world is full of gold and warmth and mine is icy blue and cold... oh unless I popped by my HQ which is in his area! :P

I like this beer ad

Seen the latest Heineken Commercial on tv? I like it! :)

Carlsberg also has some really nice ones.

And,

The impressionable one from Tiger Beer, our locally brewed beer, uses Jessica Alba in the commercial.

I'm not a beer lover, not sure which brand tastes good, better or best but I know the commercials are always worth watching! :)

Jam in the Neighbourhood

There is a funeral wake in the vicinity. Due the large number of people who came to pay their respect to the deceased, it has caused a mini jam at the carpark. Basically, the road is reduced to one lane and cars were stuck getting in or out. I was wondering when the horns will start blazing ...

I saw a police car but I doubt the police can do much.

Tokyo Trip

The posts on our Tokyo trip are finished. This was truly a trip well worth the price and the experiences were as refreshing as the first time.

It was in this trip that we first tried Kobe beef and all sorts of other beefs... we love Japan so much that we feel like going back the moment we reached Singapore. Singapore is just too warm and humid...

Baby Bath

Saw this last month when we were doing in one of the malls in town. The baby seems to be enjoying it... she's so cute! :)

Then, last week, when I was doing my shopping in another mall in the city hall area, I saw another one with the same concept. Hmmm... should i let my baby try this next time?

Upmarket's market place

We were in DFS Galleria Scotts when we came across Gucci filled with busy shoppers, few assistants, products all over the counters and not properly displayed. The place was truly in a state of mess and disorder. It was definitely not a sight expected of an upmarket place...
