Birthday Surprise

CP suprised me by making a reservation at Gunther's, my favourite restaurant.

As usual, it doesn't disappoint, especially this Angel Hair pasta with oscietra caviar.

Carpaccio beef.

Maderia prawn, tomato

White truffle season, here's another extra order - Truffle slices with egg!

Gunther's creation - pork

Red collar trout

Dessert

Nice lunch indeed! Very satisfied once more!

Back to Gunther's

What's better to make use of Stanchart 15% off dining than to go fine dining? It got to be somewhere near our offices so that we can squeeze it within our lunchtime. Of course, Gunther's at Purvis Street came to my mind. We were very impressed with the food 2 yrs back so we thought that we should revisit.

We settled for the degustation menu @ $128++ each.

Cold Angel Hair Pasta, Oscietra caviar
I simply love this cold dish. The truffle oil makes it exceptionally fragrant.

Grilled bamboo clam, Provençale style
Nice and succulent, I made sure I savour every bite :D We detected a citrus flavour to the sauce. Quite refreshing.

Egg fondant, grilled seasonal mushrooms, Spanish ham
Underneath is actually a half-boiled egg. I would never have thought of preparing half-boiled egg this way. Mushrooms, ham, cherry tomato and cheese. A nice surprise here.

Grilled lamb rack, natural jus
Very nice and succulent! I'm a meat lover :) Love the little grains of rice that goes with it.

Grilled Cod Fish
CP didn't want lamb so we had the lamb changed to cod fish. It was fresh and sweet, superb.

Fine apple tart “à la dragées”, Havana rum & raisin ice-cream
A nice finish to the meal.

Coffee n Tea

More sweets
We finished each and every single one!

Somehow, we were seated at the same seats as before.

Fine dining should excite one senses and restaurants like Gunther's, Iggys, Les Amis, Dolce Vita and Jaan definitely accomplished that. I am totally satisfied once again with Gunther's.

A good 10 years

No, not married 10 yrs but known each other for 10 years. Although I still have much to improve, we still quarrel but I'm glad we stuck to each other all these yrs. There's so much we've been through together. So this year, we thought we should do something out of the mundane to mark it.

So I thought I buy CP a clutch bag.

So she got me a wallet belatedly ... and secretly ... I nearly fainted from it. The saving grace is CP knew exactly what I want in a wallet.

So morning we went to the tree top. It was really fun sweating it out and taking photos along the way, except for the heavy downpour which dampened my spirits somewhat.

After we made it back, we gorged ourselves full at Adam Road food center with mutton soup and prawn noodles!

Then it's to the Singapore Flyer.

Dinner time at Gunther's!
We first came across it when we had lunch at Garibaldi next door. Soon after, we saw that it had quite a good review in the Straits Times. Well, why not? So there we were.

We had a half bottle 2005 Chianti Classico Berardenga, Fattoria di Felsina, Toscana for wine.

Teaser - no idea what it it. Gone in a mouthful.

Cold angel hair pasta, Oscietra caviar - A cold dish. The pasta tasted wonderful with the truffle oil. This cost $60 if ordered ala-carte.

Fine tart of tomato confit, grilled smoked bacon, frizee salad - I am not a fan of tomato but this was good. Very good complement to the bacon, with a dash of egg yolk before the tomato confit.

Consommé of pigeon, warm egg yolk, champignon de paris - First time I had clear soup in fine dining. A nice change from the creamy soups. There are bits of semi-boiled egg yolk thrown into the soup, which we found a pleasant suprise. Taste is just right, not too salty or bland.

The main dish - Cocotte of chicken in the hay. This is simply fantastic. A whole chicken "dry-steamed" in a clear glass pot full of some herbs of sort. Couldn't make out what that was.

The chicken was then divided and served in two different ways.

The first was served as it was. Mama mia! This must be the best steamed chicken I had ever tasted! The meat has fully absorbed the frangrance from whatever herbs in the glass pot and yet so very tender! This is definitely not your normal steamed chicken.

The 2nd serving was done roasted. Slightly cripsy on the outside but still fantastically tender. If not for the price, I would like to go back another time!

Orange Souffle

Chocolate Souffle

So that sums it up for the day. I would love to continue enjoy life and good food with my lovely CP! May God bless us and let each year be better than the last!
