Oops, DC did it again!

Haha, he crushed the envelope and threw it into the waste paper basket without looking whether he needed it, just like what he did to my mc...

He ironed it back to shape and we mailed it on 27 Jul, just hope that it gets to its final destination and not got rejected by the post office.

Perfect Cut 一切完美

It's been a long time since I've watched a local drama on channel U and this one is good! Definitely not one with lots of A class stars but rather, this drama wouldn't be as entertaining if not for the many long-time-no-see familar faces from old times. The drama is of good substance and delves into controversial issues of asethetic surgery...

The production and casts touches my heart. I like Julian Hee in the show, surprised that he has such a good bod! The Zheng Wanling is so 三八 in the show, very different from her younger days in 金兰结! And of course, Michelle Chia is very pretty and Thomas Ong still as dashing as before...

The 13-episode series just ended last Friday. DC and I had them all recorded, we are just about 3 episodes away from the final episode. Can't wait to know the ending but shhh... if you already know what's gonna happened, don't let us know yet! Hopefully, it's a perfect ending!

An apple today

Free apple was given by company... I like apples, it's been such a long time since I've last eaten one.

There was a fruit stall at the other side of the bazaar. Saw boxes of strawberries and was reminded of those I saw in Japan. Then, I remembered the strawberry milk sauce we brought back from Japan. Wanted to get some strawberries back home but too bad, the stall assistant had no loose change.

My colleague got herself a booth where she sold lotions from Victoria Secrets and Body Shop. What caught my attention was not the bottles and tubes of lotions but rather, the bag that sits on the centre of the table...

Farewell

I can't believe I volunteered to shop for the farewell gift. Well, my boss is leaving the firm and she is a good boss, possibly the best ever.

So I asked around for opinion and my friend Dennis pointed me to Burberry. Looks nice. Brought CP down to take a look and she fell in love with it. Seeing that she like it so much, I asked to purchase another one. Too bad, it's the only one in stock at the moment. I don't know if I felt relieved more or was CP more disappointed :)

I had a budget of about $600 to play with. After purchasing the watch, there's still about $100 left. So it all went to Tangs vouchers. All thanks to CP who went down during lunch to buy them and also shop for a card after work ... I am tied down with RT, that's why. (The SG guys will know what RT is)

Quite a nice card she bought.

It was quite filling and the recipe was rather unique... chicken curry, tempeh with lots of veg... luckily the curry wasn't too hot.

Thanks Mike!

New York New York

It was always packed at New York New York (AMK Hub). Then again, all the eateries at AMK Hub are packed, everyday.

We went fairly late in the evening so it was a short wait to get inside. Hmm ... there's root beer float ... Great and oh boy, was it huge. Brings back memories of A&W.

080727-08

The tomato mussel broth is excellent, not too sour or spicy. A good start to a meal.

080727-10

I'm always a fan of Aglio Olio. The thing with Aglio Olio is that it is almost always spicy. This one almost killed me. After I was finished with it, I was almost drenched. Despite that, it tasted great with nice bacon bits. I gulfed it down with gusto!

080727-12

CP had Salmon Steak. Nicely grilled and tender. A pity that it was quite expensive at $18.90, compared to other items on the menu. Other than price, I had no complains with it.

080727-11

By the time we finished, we had no room for desserts. A pity ...

Marvelous Cream

Forget about Swensens, Hagaan Daz and Ben & Jerry ice-creams. Head down to Marvelous Cream at CityLink Mall for an unique ice-cream experience now!

I was there on Fri and tried the Gelee de Caffe Mocha. There's so much fun looking at how the staff mix, match and make the ice-cream. My ice-cream is made up of espresso ice-cream with coffee jelly, fresh cream, koo belcher choc and my fav white choc slices.

The end result? Marvellicious! :)

One thing funny though... it says French Sweets Parfait on the shop front but when I stepped in, I was greeted in japanese and songs that were broadcasted were in japanese, hmm... so is it French or Japanese?

Peranakan Musuem

Peranakan Musuem -- the latest addition to Singapore's list of Musuems. I was there yesterday on a guided tour with my colleagues and it was quite an unique experience. I felt like a student again going on an excusion except that this time, there is no need to submit worksheet.

What's there at the Peranakan Musuem?
The Peranakan Museum showcases the history, traditions and lifestyles of olden day Peranakans. The ten galleries are sectioned as follows:-

Gallery 1: Origins
Find out who are the peranakans and where did they come from.

Galleries 2-5: Wedding
Wow, a traditional wedding celebration lasted 12 days! The traditional wedding costume was far too traditional... don't think anyone would wear them nowadays.

Gallery 6: Nonya
I like this section... unique sarong kebayas, beadwork and embroideries are showcased here.

Gallery 7: Religion
They have very similar beliefs to the chinese - Daoism, Buddhism, ancestral worship, etc. There is even a display of the dieties that they worship - Ma Zhu, Monkey God, Bao Gong and Nezha! Also, there is a section on death and mourning - Watch out for the coffin display, skip this if you find this disturbing.

Gallery 8: Public Life
Find the portrait of Tan Tock Seng in this section. I never knew Mr Tan Tock Seng was a peranakan?! The guide told us that they managed to borrow the genuine oil painting protrait from the family of the late philanthropist and will be showcasing it in time to come.

Gallery 9: Food and Feasting
You'll see the distinct colourful porcelain exibits in this section. There is also a table setup display.

Gallery 10: Conversations
You could skip this section if you like. It's just a video screening of young peranakans talking.

Where is the Peranakan Musuem?
It's at 39 Armenian Street, Singapore 179941 where the old 3-storey Tao Nan School building stands.

Videography and Photography are allowed but no camera flashes... Find out more from the official website.

The bed I saw in one of the galleries reminded me of the one I slept in China!

Peranakan Bed

China Bed

Somehow, this tour also reminded me of our Indian heritage tour. In comparison, I enjoyed the visit to the Goa heritage houses and mansions more. It was as if we had returned to that Portuguese era... mansions filled with the Indo-Portuguese furniture, European and Chinese wares, the exquisite Italian flooring, the 200-year old love chair and how well the items were maintained in the original states and positions... we could feel and find the Portuguese heritage and cultural mark everywhere in the house.

The guide revealed that Peter Lee (Dick Lee's brother) and some Peter Wee are in the midst of doing up a Peranakan heritage house and this would be the next tourist attaction. Hopefully, it'll be as attractive and popular as those we've seen in Goa!

Antz Trap

Of late, we always see ants scavenging the kitchen for food. Since I knocked off early today, I did some marketing in the nearby supermarket...must get an ant bait today! I found these 3 brands, not sure which one works best so just picked one and go.

At night, before I could act, I caught numerous ants feeding on the portuguese tart that I brought home for DC! Too late, the tart was gone and we had to clear the mess that the ants left behind. Hate it...

We've now laid the traps by the fridge and near the stove, so far no ant has come forward.. hope that they'll fall for the trap soon.

A stroke of luck

Hee hee, we struck toto today. DC was matching the numbers, then he playfully shouted "中了!" He was only joking with me at that time but who knows 1..2..3..4... we struck 4 numbers!

Although the amt is insignificant, we were happy to receive this. We welcome more such strokes of luck... :)

MOF @ My Izakaya

A newcomer at Suntec - MOF @ My Izakaya, one of the many Japanese restaurants rushing into the market nowadays.

Char Siew Miso Ramen

Miso soup wasn't extremely salty. Noodles had a "crunchy" feel to it, wasn't soggy. Good bite.

Nabeyaki Udon

Udon cooked in a claypot with ebi tempura. You can taste the freshness of the ebi tempura, even though it was deep-fried. Soup is not overly sweet, it's a good accompaniment to the udon. The crust of the tempura is crisp, light and thin. Dip it into the udon soup and it's oishi.

However, we didn't come here to eat the usual. We were gunning for the desserts. True enough, there was quite a variety.

Shira Sesame Hokkaido Gelato Mini (Left) / Macha Zen (Right)

Sadly, the macha ice-cream wasn't smooth enough. You can bite onto some icy frozen bits through the ice-cream.

Shira Sesame Hokkaido Gelato Mini

This was better, with a fragrant sesame taste and mochi to go along.

Yummy Japanese

Korean drama is all the rage now but when it comes to food, the Japanese reign king. We have seen agressive expansion by some Japanese restaurants, e.g. Shokudo, MOF and a whole new line-up of Osaka eateries at Jurong Point.

Here's one extremely fantastic dessert from Shokudo Japanese Coffee House at Bugis Junction level 1.

Tofu Cheesecake

Soft and velvety with a mixture of cheese. Melts in your mouth and not overpowering. The crust is of crisp biscuit, somewhat similar to oatmeal. Reminds me of the marble cheescake at Secret Recipe. Priced affordably at $4.80, it definitely leaves you wanting for more.

The Dark Knight

It just seem so easy to get tickets to the Movie "The Dark Knight", not from the cinema ticket counters but from everywhere else... DC's company sold the tickets at $4 each (he bought 3), my company at $3 each (I bought 3 too), other places I heard were selling them for $6. Others got it for free... my sis and colleague KS were among them. Eventually, thanks to KS's arrangements, I got additional 4 tickets for free. DC and I were happy to sell away the excess tickets and watched the free show. :)

We were at BT Frontline Movie Day yesterday with DC and his buddies. The movie was good and up to expectation.

A fan of Batman, DC couldn't stop telling me (during the movie) about who Two-Face was, what will happen next and how different the movie was from the comic. At the end of it, I could tell that he was very satisfied with this movie.

I find it not too bad (afterall, it's not my type of movie) and it's much better than the first one. It's just a pity that:-

1. The Joker Heath Ledger didn't live long enough to see his great performance in the movie.
2. The Batman's childhood friend (Maggie Gyllenhaal) was not the same one. I prefer the previous one (Katie Holmes).
3. The movie was a little too long - 153 mins!
4. We didn't manage to spot Edison Chen in the movie! Knew that he would be making appearance in the movie but didn't expect it to gone in a flash! My eyes must have been fixed on Morgan Freeman that I didn't realise that he was beside!

The Dark Knight - Now Showing Islandwide

Rating: PG
Language: English
Director: Christopher Nolan
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman
Runtime: 153 mins

The follow-up to the action hit “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight” reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.

With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger (“Brokeback Mountain”) stars as arch-villain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays District Attorney Harvey Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast in the role of Rachel Dawes. Returning from “Batman Begins” are Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon; Oscar winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) as Alfred; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) as Lucius Fox.

Jumbo Treat

Cat treated us to dinner at Jumbo Seafood. It's a pity DC didn't come along with us, he missed the good food! The call for dinner actually came in quite timely - when I was about to finish my report and after I cancelled my appointment with ex-colleagues. On the other hand, it was rather sinful to have such late dinner (9 plus, seafood some more) but who cares, I felt then that I needed the food to de-stress myself esp. after the pressure buildup from rushing out that supposedly urgent report!

Jumbo at the Singapore Indoor Stadium - We chose the outdoor seats, it was a breezy night, quite cold actually...

Sharks' Fin Soup - Each one of us has a pot. I love this dish! The fins were visible and soup was deliciously done, and there's mushroom and shredded scallop inside.

Scallop Wrapped in Yam Ring - I've always love to eat scallop whether fresh or dried. This dish was unique however it was slightly bland. Saw from the website that it was supposed to be served with some traditional "Ngoh Hiang" sauce but I don't think I saw it on the table or did I miss it?

Green Veg - We (or it was only me?) focused on eating the crab that I forgot all about the veg.

JUMBO Chilli Crab Served with deep-fried buns - The highlight of the dinner. The Sri Lankan Crabs meat were simply sweet and yummy! Sauce wise, thankfully I could still take the hotness of the chilli sauce.

Golden Nest Salad Prawn - If only Ah Boy were there, he would have loved the crispy potato nest and the prawns!

By the time the last dish came, all of us were too full... I only took a bite. Shld have packed home the fried rice for DC. :P

Thanks Cat, for the wonderful dinner. You've scored high points for this one! :)

Kado Man - The 2nd Time

Last Thurs, since we were around the area (DC got himself a new office keyboard at Funan), I brought DC to Kado Man for lunch...

The restaurant was almost full house when we got there. We took the counter seats. Chefs were busy at work...Look at the sake bottles on top of the shelves! We so feel like ordering a bottle of sake but too bad it's only noon time, we still have to go back for work.

We wanted to try the fish cake but it was unavailable. The waitress recommended this to us instead. Dunno what this is called in the menu but this is like "Yong Tau Fo", only that the beancurd was softer, fish meat sweeter and soup base tastier.

My favorite dish that day! Can't forget that firm, fresh and fabulous tuna & swordfish meat! It's $38 and well-worth it.

Beef ramen that DC had. The soup base was nice and the ramen was nicely done. It was good, according to DC.

I had the soba miso set lunch. The sauce was slightly saltish yet blended well with the mackeral when taken together. The salad beside was marvellous, the sesame oil and the bits of crackers makes the taste unique... i like the flavour!

Tofu that comes with my set lunch. Yummy too!

Altogether, the lunch costed us almost a hundred but it's a really satisfying (and full) meal.
