Finding the right follow on formula

One issue settled, another arose! Sigh, we just found a solution to improve Baby's daytime sleep and now, there's a new milk issue!

We thought Baby will have no problem transiting to his follow on formula at 6 months because he has proven to be able to accept a variety of liquids. Up to now, he showed that he could take his infant fm (Friso Gold 1), my bm (fresh, refrigerated and thawed), water and even liquid medicines! It turned out to be quite a failure and till now, since Wed night, we have not managed to find the one formula he likes!

So far we've tried Similac 2 from Wed night through Sat afternoon: Baby moved his bowels after every feed and we thought it was part of his routine until Baby alerted us by shutting his mouth really tight refusing milk since yesterday morning! :( We then changed to Similac Neosure (recommended by PD) on the next feed. At first, he was doing fine but after 2 feeds today, he rejected the milk and spit out the milk in his mouth! There was no way we could force the milk in his mouth!! We then let him try the bm (last resort) in his glass bottle and God bless! it still worked on him! Phew! So, today, he had full bm until his last feed. For his night feed today, we fed him Mamil Gold - another milk. He did struggle for quite a while before drinking it all up but at least we got him to finish it up.

I've never seen him so displeased about his milk, usually he'll just smile very innocently and looked away from the milk (politely reject instead of crying and keeping mouth shut)! It seemed that he now associated the premium wide-necked bottle that we just bought for him with un-delicious milk and the glass one with delicious milk! Hopefully, when tomorrow comes, he'll wake up forgetting about his unpleasant experience with the milk/bottle and resume his drinking... or else, my in-laws are going to have a hard time feeding him when DC and I are at work!

[Updated on 15 Feb 10: Baby is now taking well to his new FM. However, he still rejects his premium wide neck bottle! We actually see a huge growth just one week after the new FM was introduced! 400g in just 1 week! Wow!]

衣服本来刚刚好...

...怎么现在扣不上? 为什么?

Baby has finally outgrown all his 0-3 months clothes! This is great news for us! Back then, the clothes looked so big on him that we had to type them up to stop slippage. It was a heartpain seeing him so tiny in clothes that were supposed to fit him! Now, although he's still a size smaller, he's definitely progressing well! :)

Baby at 1 month.

CNY is coming soon, I just have to make sure I pre-washed all his new clothes and get them ready for him to wear after CNY! :D

Visit to the PD

We brought Baby to a PD recommended by a friend of ours. PD said he's very healthy, nothing is wrong with him. Considering his birth weight, his current weight of 5.3kg is acceptable. Nevertheless, he recommended a special infant formula for fattening him up if we want to. We have just started on his follow on milk formula but think it would be good to give the recommended milk powder a try. Hopefully with the new milk, he'll catch up fast on his weight! :)

He's totally at home at the clinic at Paragon. Rolling here and there when we weigh him and at the doc's examination cushion! He's sooo cute! :)

After the examination, we took him to the nursing room for feeding and change his diaper. He was again very happy smiling away!

After that, it's off to Taka for cakes and then LV! :D

Listen, I was almost always right

DC has been performing his duties as a father satisfactorily so far but there's one thing I have to complain and that is his tendency to miss my point!

This attitude left me with alternating emotions of love and hate. Every time I requested for something, he'll end up saying no or forgetting about the matter. The laughable part is: after a few days, weeks or months, he'll come to me and tell me he wanted to do what I requested initially, ha!

I've got many examples on hand that I can cite, he knows them all too. The question is how to make him listen to me and get what I want in the very beginning? Hmm, maybe I should try to nag at him more and ask him to recite my words exactly as I say so that he could see my point and accede to my request than to wait for him to realise I was all along right?

Actually, I'm equally guilty about it. Mummy has been providing me her words of wisdom but I've also conveniently ignored some of them because I've not seen her point. Many a times, she was always right and I wished I had listened to her earlier! Well, maybe that's how life is. You try to change others to see what you see but you fail to realise that others may be wanting to do the same to you! :P

Baby on a Bouncer

Have been wanting to get this for a long time, finally we made up our mind to get it for Baby.

Besides keeping him in place, it also doubles up as a comfy rocking bed for him. A worthy buy cos with this, Baby can sleep longer in the day with less disturbance! He likes it too! :)

Baby Swimming 9

We brought Baby swimming after MIL's birthday celebration at Cathay Restaurant. He was the same cranky boy who refused to swim! We really had no idea why. It didn't helped that people he knows were outside at the window looking at him swim!

Baby is 6 months old

Ever since the christmas n birthday parties, he became increasingly cranky! Put him on his bed he'll cry, talk too loudly he'll cry, touch his head he'll cry, give him milk he'll cry, take out his milk he'll cry, leave him alone he'll cry and worst, he doesn't sleep as much (15 mins at most)! Looks like the scary separation anxiety has begun!

Since the hand movements, he has hit another of his milestones: Flip! It's just so amazing how fast he mastered the skill of flipping. I was worried that he wouldn't like flipping because he hated to be laid on his tummy but I was wrong! He conquered his fear and learned the trick in just 2 days! I think his playgym and new playmat we bought on new year's day did help him a little. He can now flip very swiftly as opposed to his very first flip - slow and un-smooth! Now, the irony (and worrying) part is that it's very difficult to put him on his back in his cot and wait for him to sleep on his own! The technique has to be changed... Occassionally, you'll catch him tired and struggling on his tummy with his softbook (the one I placed on his cot) over his head or his regurgitated milk on his bed all over his face!

Now, his little nails grow so fast! Scratches on his face were common sights now. He also likes to touch our faces, it sometimes hurt but seeing him so curious makes it worth it. We took his booties off in the day (I know it's kinda late), he's now starting to 'feel' and touch his toes with his hands. We introduced a couple of new toys and teethers to him to keep him entertain in the day. He doesn't sleep much in the day. Night time sleep was fortunately not affected. He sleeps by 10pm and wakes up at around 730am daily.

He is still drinking 120ml every 3 hourly taking 40mins each time. His weight remains very light. He's only about 5.3kg, the weight of a 2/3-month old! A number has recommended us to look for a pd. We were quite indifferent to it, in fact on the other hand, I have a couple of field experts who assured me that it's alright. However, to shut the gaps, we made an appointment to see a friend's son's pd this coming thurs.

I've started taking out the frozen milk bags (have to clear them cos no fridge space!!) for him to consume and he just had his first drop of water (finally!)... I see that he is taking them well. :) I see that he is salivating more... Next step: Solids!

Baby's cranky and kept crying in the tub today! :(

The staff said that was because he can recognize people now. We had quite a hard time coercing him to kick and finally, to entertain us, he kicked a bit and then stayed afloat unwillingly. We got him out of the waters soon after...

Birthday Celebration 4 - Tiffin Room

We specially took another day of leave to celebrate CP's birthday. Yesterday's at Iggy's was without Baby A, so doesn't really feel complete right? :)

So off to the Tiffin Room at Raffles Hotel for high tea we go! We were quite blown away with the interiors when we stepped in. It had a majestic feel to it, high walls, brightly lit, quite fitting to the Raffles Hotel namesake.

Sandwiches were quite alright, the rest of asian cuisine like siew mai, dumplings, popiah were passable only.

However, it was really a nice place for photos. We were very pleased with the way the photos turned out.

Dad and Mum off to China again!

Just back from Ah Ma's grand post-funeral procession in China in Dec 09, now they went off to China again to settle Dua Pek's funeral!

I was waiting for my duck meat (birthday lunch) when a call came. It was Mum. She called to inform that uncle (actually god dad) had passed away the night before and they would be flying to China to attend the funeral the next day for 6 days!

Shocking! I really ought to be on compassionate leave too!

Birthday Treat 3 - Iggy's

The actual day itself, I decided to lunch with CP at Iggy's. Took us almost two years to finally stepped into this place. It grabbed the 1st place in Miele's Guide 2008 and 2nd place in 2009.

20100114-WS120-10

Located at the Regent Hotel, it's tucked away on the 3rd floor, right in front of the escalator. Although I made the booking on Monday, the tables were already fully booked, leaving only the counter seats facing the kitchen.

20100114-D80-18

We ordered the 5-course set lunch, CP and me choosing different items on the menu.

Complimentary starter: Peach tomato essence with sweet tomato, a very refreshing drink and a good start to the meal proper.
20100114-D80-03

(DC) Iggy's Salad - Mushroom, tomato, mango, avovado, mesclun, red onion, herbs, truffle and Hollandaise. The Hollandaise is fantastic, very fragrant buttery flavour.
20100114-D80-10

(CP) Tomato Tart, basil and Parmigiano Reggiano
20100114-D80-11

(DC) Peppered beef tongue, tomato relish and root vegetables. Tenderly delicious, even the black pepper granules tasted great.
20100114-D80-12

(CP) Sakura ebi cappellini with konbu and home-made scampi oil. Ohhh ... it was somewhat like the angel-hair pasta at Gunther's. CP and I agreed that it tasted great with the dried shrimps.
20100114-D80-15

(DC) Classic onion soup with gratinated cheese croutons
20100114-D80-21

(CP) Mushroom Cappuccino - Can't go wrong with this!
20100114-D80-24

(DC) Chargrilled wagyu beef rump, rosemary potatoes and mesclun salad - Juicy steak.
20100114-D80-25

(CP) Confit of duck leg, rosemary potato, mesclun - The duck was so tender although the skin looks to be fried crispy. A tasty surprise here, delicious!
20100114-D80-27

(DC) Souffle and pina colada - Almost all the diners chose this dessert. No wonder, the souffle was so fluffy. The sweetness isn't overwhelming, I finished the whole souffle and don't feel choked from the sweetness. Make a hole in the souffle, pour in the ice-cream and enjoy the pina colada shake in the meanwhile.
20100114-D80-36

(CP) Caraibe chocolate bar, mascarpone ice-cream, green lime zest
20100114-D80-34

At the end of it all, there's a surprise dessert for CP!

Gin jelly, feijoa sorbet and lime foam.
20100114-D80-39

Not forgetting, my present for CP.
20100114-D80-07 20100114-D80-08

I also got CP the iPhone 3GS 32GB. There was no queue this time round!

When I grow up...

The company is organizing a D&D this week. The theme is: "When I grow up...". It has been refreshing every Monday since 5 weeks ago to find new posters pasted on the lift door, the office door and on the toilet doors of each floor! Love these posters, they are so creative!

Since we're already on the topic, when you are young, what do you wanna be when you grow up? Do you know you are going to be what you are now back then? Hmm... for me, I never would have thought I'll get into my current profession. All my younger school days, I've been thinking of becoming a teacher. How did I end up not becoming a teacher? Beats me! Perhaps it's just like the song "Que Sera Sera" - what will be will be! :)

The lyrics of Que Sera Sera:

Que Sera Sera
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me.

Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.

When I was young, I fell in love
I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows, day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said.

Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.

Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, what will I be
Will I be handsome, will I be rich
I tell them tenderly.

Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.

Birthday Treat 2

Ok, it's more like I wanted steak but CP isn't complaining. She likes the desserts here. After Baby A had his little swim, it's off to Dan Ryan's again.

Nice loaf of bread and cake to start.

The steak here never disappoints.

Striploin done medium.

Lasagna for CP.

Brownie for dessert.

Not forgetting our precious baby A, we found something for him over at Burberry ION too!

It was full house today! Luckily we didn't have to queue for it.

Not in a very good mood, he preferred not to kick so hard today. He learnt a new trick - you'll see him do some turns from back to front! :)

His favorite swimming position today: Legs propped up behind & criss-crossed, then very swiftly turned to the front.

He didn't swim for 2 weeks and I thought he would have missed it a lot. I wonder if he likes the new outlet better cos he seems to enjoy himself better there. DC said it could be that the water temperature today is higher than usual... hmm, I'm not so sure about that, we'll see if he behaves the same next time.

Birthday Treat 1

Hot on the heels of November and December's feasting and celebrations, comes January celebration. It's CP's special month :) I personally like birthdays because there's always special privileges offered by various restaurants, credit cards, service providers, etc.

For lunch today, we took advantage of M1's birthday treat at Tony Roma's. I think it's been more than 10 yrs since I dined at Tony Roma's. CP had never tried it. I quite like the ribs, tender and tasty. CP had grilled seabass, which was quite good as well. Finally, nothing like a nice ice-creamy dessert to finish it off.
