Red Cliff

We watched the historical film Red Cliff on DVD this weekend... Both parts 1 & 2 were long so, we watched them over 2 days.

Throughout the duration of play, DC passed remark on the differences between the actual history and what was shown. It's no wonder, he knew the stories of the Three Kingdom and the characters well unlike me who is quite disinterested in history events especially warfare... I have heard of Zhu Geliang, Cao Cao, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei but not too sure about the rest. DC can even remembered their other names (e.g. Zhao Yun = Zhao Zilong, Liu Bei = Liu Yuzhou, Guan Yu = Guan Yunchang, Zhu Geliang = Kongming, etc).

The actors had not portrayed the history characters well and there were inaccuracies, this was DC's comment. So I guess, he didn't really like it? I agreed with him that the role of Sun Shangxiang is redundant...

I'm on facebook

Yes, after sooo long, my profile finally can be found on facebook! :)

I've always have reservations about signing up for an account with facebook but after seeing DC having fun with the activities, I decided that i should also be part of the much raved about social network! :D

This is a good start to keep up with happenings around my friends and keep in contact with long lost friends, I'll probably use this as a platform to share my photos and to update them of my developments from time to time... hope I can stay active. :)

好孕

DC kept using the term "你好孕" on me recently whenever he sees my stomach... he means that I'm very pregnant. I kinda like it because I think it sounds like he's wishing me good luck ( 好运 )... I like it best when he touches the tummy and speaks to the baby, it makes me feel so very blessed and 辛福! :D

Swollen

It started today... I was at my parent's home when I felt this weird feeling on my foot. Looking down I saw my left foot swollen. Looking closely, I realised my right foot was swollen as well but my left foot was even more swollen! :(

Dad, Mum and sis assured me that it is normal to have big feet at this pregnancy stage, there's nothing to worry about. I can't imagine what DC would say or do to my poor feet now that my short toes becomes more stubby! Heehe...

They also commented that my tummy had become more obvious and much bigger compared to last week before they went for their holiday... Until today, I can proudly say that I don't feel difficulty during pregnancy except for occasional throw ups and leg cramps but now, I'm not only have swelling feet but starting to feel heavy as I began to swell all over! Well, I guess it's about time, I'm approaching my third trimester!

The Bourne Series

DC likes the movie series so much that we bought the dvd box set home yesterday and we finished watching them all in just one day - today! :)

Besides the unbeatable superhuman, exciting car races, dark corrupted underhand dealings and suspenseful plots, what also attracts me is the countries that Jason Bourne (the character's name) went to! So far we have only been to one - Goa, India - but I hope to visit all of these places one day... :)

Zurich, Switzerland
Prague, Czech
Paris, France
Berlin, Germany
Rome, Italy
Naples, Italy
Munich, Germany
Moscow, Russia
New York City, US
Turin, Italy
Madrid, Spain
Tangier, Morocco

It is one of the few films where each sequel is better than the earlier... We'll definitely be waiting for Bourne No. 4 to come in 2010! :)

Who will he take after?

Found this site that helps to forecast the look of your baby based on two photos uploaded. This was the first picture I got:

Cute isn't it? But, I don't seem to find any resemblance in this rendered picture at all... Then after a few more tries, I began to realise this website is targetted at ang mos only... that explains the big eyes, sharp noses and blond hairs. Are there any websites for asians that you know of?

I guess we could only have the fun guessing what our baby would look like now...

Will he grow up to be tall like Daddy or short like Mummy?
Will he have Daddy's double eye lids or Mummy's single eye lids?
Will he have Daddy's high forehead or Mummy's low forehead?
Will he have Daddy's long slim toes or Mummy has short stubby toes?
Will he have dimples like Daddy or none like Mummy?
Will he prefer pork and steak like Daddy or fish and seafood like Mummy?
Will he prefer noodles like Daddy or rice like Mummy?
Will he like chocolate-flavoured ice-cream like Daddy or vanilla like Mummy?
Will he be like Daddy who is a cleanliness freak or like Mummy who has high tolerance for dirt?

I wonder who will he take after? :)

My new iMac

My iMac finally arrived on Fri after more than a month! DC helped me set it up...

This is only the 2nd day that I've used it but I'm statisfied with it. It's so sleek and the interface is so rich! It even comes with an in-built camera. Sis (holidaying in HK) wanted to set up a video conference so that mum can see and talk to me online but too bad, back then I have not figured out how to use it! :P

Now I just need to get used to the keyboard and the position of the shortcut keys (it's slightly different from Windows). This weekend is good as I've all the free time to play around with it as DC is on reservist...

Quiet Weekend

This weekend seemed extremely quiet... DC is on reservist and my parents are holidaying in Hong Kong with my sis... It's so hot outside that I don't feel like going out alone. Since I've got lots of free time at home, I decided to do really serious housekeeping before my tummy gets bigger!

Have packed the bags that were lying around in the guest room for years, finally get the motivation to throw them. :D

I've also planned to clear my overfilled wardrobe tomorrow..

And, of course, I get to watch lots and lots of tv programmes and recorded serials... without disturbance! :P

Know what your govt has for you & your baby

I guess it makes sense now to check out what the Singapore government has in store for me and my baby! :)

Following 17 Aug 2008, the government has implemented the following package for parents...

1) Pre-delivery/Delivery:

Medisave Maternity Package
The Medisave Maternity Package enables you to use your Medisave, for the delivery (up to a max of $2250 for normal vaginal delivery or up to a max of $3650 for normal caesarian delivery) and pre-delivery (up to a maximum of $450) medical expenses of your first four children. For fifth and subsequent children, there must be at least $15K of combined Medisave balance at the time of delivery.

To claim pre-delivery charges from Medisave, you need just to present the bills incurred for your pre-delivery medical care to the hospital where you will be having your baby. The hospital will submit these bills, together with the delivery expenses, for Medisave claims under the Medisave Maternity Package.

2) Post Delivery:

Baby Bonus
The Baby Bonus comprises a cash gift and a co-savings component.

For first & second child, a cash gift of $4,000 will be given out in 4 equal installments over 18 months (i.e. 3 weeks after you join the scheme, when your child is 6 months, 12 months and 18 months old) . The Government will match dollar-for-dollar the amount of savings you contribute to your child Children Development Account (CDA) up to the specified ceiling ($6,000 each for the first and second child, $12,000 each for the third or fourth child and $18,000 each for the fifth and subsequent child).

Infant Care and Childcare Subsidy
Infant care and childcare subsidy of up to$600 and $300 respectively per month to help parents offset the cost of centre-based care.

Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Levy
A FDW levy of $170 (concession) instead of $265 is payable every month.

Maternity Leave
Mother can enjoy 16 weeks of paid maternity leave

3) Back to work:

New Infant Care Leave
6 days of unpaid infant care leave for working parent with any Singaporean child under the age of two, regardless of the number of qualifying children.

Childcare Leave
6 days per year for working parents with any Singaporean child under the age of seven, regardless the number of qualifying children.

4) Tax Benefits:

Qualifying Child Relief (QCR)
Parents can claim $4,000 per child. You and your spouse can share the QCR/HCR in any proportion.

Working Mother's Child Relief (WMCR)
Working mothers can enjoy 15% of their earned income for first child, 20% for 2nd child, 25% for each subsequent child (up to 100%).

The total amount of relief claimable for both QCR and WMCR is capped at $50,000 per child.

Parenthood Tax Rebate (PTR)
Parents can claim PTR for their child ($5,000 for 1st child, $10,000 for 2nd child, $20,000 for each subsequent child). PTR can be used to offset your income tax payable and may be shared with your spouse, based on the apportionment agreed by both parties. Any unutilised rebate will be carried forwarded to subsequent years until it is fully utilised.

Once Bitten, Twice Doubly Alert!

Just came back from my facial session.

As my facial package is almost used up, the consultant wasted no time in persuading me into signing a new package today. Too bad, because this was the very consultant that has cheated me into getting my current package, I refused to sign any package today. Not with her...

I was convinced that her words could not be trusted, especially after countless of sessions where the therapists told me that the dead sea whitening spa does not suit me! Guess what? They all recommended me my previous facial package as that, they said, suited me better! Ha, so much for converting to a more expensive product but did no wonders to my skin condition at all. She definitely has lost all her creditability.

Hmm, I'm thinking of switching to another place after my package ended... but, where to?

Taken & Knowing

We watched these two films today.

Our vote goes to "Taken" which was more real and exciting. The plot was something like the "Hostel" and "Turistas" - Tourists being kidnapped in a foreign country (but of all places, why does it have to be Paris this time?). However, different from Hostel and Turistas, there were no torturing scenes showed as this film focuses on how the father saves his daughter, there was no details on the daughter's predicament during her kidnap. I had a thrilled time watching the actions and was most amazed by the dad who uses his skills and wits to gather clues that led him eventually to his daughter. He's a super human man!

"Knowing" has its suspense but the plot was unreal and slow at times. We got turned off at one point when the "Aliens" showed up... the feeling was exactly like back then when we watched "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"...

Did you know that the latest Sakura 09 layout is the 10th layout for our blog? The very first was the orginal template from Blogger. I thought it might be good if I find a place to store all the different layouts we've had over the years...

So, tata, this is the collection so far. Which do you like best? My personal favorite is the Romantic Japan 08 layout - sweet and simple. I like the current Sakura 09 design as well - this is one of the pieces that require the least effort but yet obtained the refreshing effect that I wanted (because of the big colour contrast from the previous version maybe?).

I will update this post whenever a new theme has been implemented. So, stay tuned! :)

Blog Theme Refreshed

It's been quite some time since I last changed the blog theme... So, here it is! In comes the Japanese Spring Sakura and out goes the outdated Korean Autumn Leaves. :)

Besides "Flower Viewing" which was deliberately planned, our most recent Tokyo trip also unintentionally bear the theme of "Beef Exploration". So if you noticed, on the blog header, I've included the dinning pictures of the satisfied DC and CP feasting on the beefy meals.

The green background is to give the blog a new refreshed feeling. Refreshing...just like spring leaves and our trip!

Also changed are the removal of the Baby Sex poll (we don't need that anymore since we already know the gender) and the change of colour of the pregnancy counter (initially it was pinkish) to match the new blog colours (green)...

Comfy shoes for pregnancy

Hehe, no more high heels for me any more.

I started wearing flats after my dad spotted me on heels one night 2 months ago when we went for dinner... :P Had collected quite a bit of low-heeled ones since then.

Frankly speaking, flats are not really comfy. They make me look super short when I stand next to DC and they give me ugly blisters and painful cramps.

I'm a seasoned high-heeled shoes wearer, it is actually easier for me to walk on heels than on flats. So, it took a while for me to get used to the flat soles without blisters and cramps... Just hope that my feet will not swell during this pregnancy or else the shoes I've just bought will be wasted!

The posts on our Tokyo trip are finished. This was truly a trip well worth the price and the experiences were as refreshing as the first time.

It was in this trip that we first tried Kobe beef and all sorts of other beefs... we love Japan so much that we feel like going back the moment we reached Singapore. Singapore is just too warm and humid...

Pre-natal Seminar

We went to the pre-natal seminar organised by our church today and it was a long 4 hours talk! Luckily we went with a full stomach and in between there was a 30 mins tea break with yummy food. Needless to say, we benefited from the seminar and obtained valuable information from the speaker who currently has 2 boys and is carrying her 3rd child. I think after this seminar, DC should be more appreciative of me and definitely have a better idea of what's to come in the next few months. I also gained from it. Now I know that I want a supernatural birth, not a natural one... Faith is the word! :)

We nearly missed this seminar cos we did not receive any notification from the church until yesterday. I'm glad we came to this seminar together. I just love going to seminars with DC... :D

12 Rounds

12 ROUNDS

Rating: PG
Consumer advice: Violence
Genre: Action-Adventure
Language: English with Chinese subtitles
Director: Renny Harlin
Cast: John Cena, Steve Harris, Ashley Scott, Aidan Gillen, Brian White
Runtime: 106mins

WWE champion John Cena is New Orleans Police Detective Danny Fisher. When Fisher stops a brilliant thief from getting away with a multi-million-dollar heist, the thief’s girlfriend is accidentally killed. After escaping from prison, the criminal mastermind enacts his revenge, taunting the cop with a series of near-impossible puzzles and tasks 12 rounds of games that Fisher must somehow complete to save the life of his own fiancée.

DC decided to go for some actions after the holiday break. He chose this film to watch. Solving 12 dangerous tasks assigned by criminal within the time stipulated in order to save the girlfriend and to nab the runaway criminal, hmm the film did have quite a bit of actions and explosions but DC felt the film was only normal. I think it's fine, I like the happy ending.

5th Checkup - Gender Determined

Today was the long awaited day and we finally know the sex of the baby! Hehee, apparently all family and friends' guesses were wrong, our baby is a Boy! Now that we know the gender, buying things would be much more easier. :)

One bad news though - Doc anlaysed the test that I've done last month and confirmed I have contracted an infection caused by a type of bacteria called Candida Albicans. Fortunately, it was not Group B streptococcus, the type of bacteria that can cause serious illnesses for both mother and baby during pregnancy and after delivery. (Urinary Tract Infections due to Group B streptococcus is one of the causes of premature labour for women.)

It is fairly common for pregnant women to experience fungal infection due to higher levels of estrogen in our bodies which in turn influences the varginal to produce more glycogen (a type of sugar). Yeast growth thrive in such an environment and spreads easily in the reproductive tract. To cure the infection, I was given Gyno-Trosyd, a vaginal tablet. Left untreated, newborns are vulnerable to a type of fungal infection called thrush. Causing white patches to appear on their tongue. Although it is quite common and can easily treated, it’s best not to expose the baby to such ailments.

Next we went to TMC for the Fetal Anomaly aka FA scan (Between 18 to 24 weeks into pregnancy, the FA scan examines in detail the brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, bowel, kidneys and limbs to ensure normal growth.) Everything looked fine and from the scan, the baby is now 16cm long weighing 465grams. We saw that the baby was very active inside...one moment he was facing downwards, the next moment he was cupping the hands and then we caught him playing with his toes! So Cute! :D
