The BRAT formula for Diarrhoea

It seems that one after another, colleagues in my department are getting diarrhea! First, it was YW, then PC, JX and now me (and DC)!

We couldn't figure out what causes the food poisoning (packed lunch? popcorn? home-cooked dinner?). The contractions started at night, I was quite worried at first. Then, during the night, every few hourly, I had to wake up to visit the bathroom. Late in the night, DC too started to do the same. We knew that it must be something that we ate wrong!

This continued into the next day. DC took medicine and it stopped for him. I didn't take any medicine and I'm still having the runs now!!

Anyways, I thought it might be useful to share this that I found online. The BRAT diet.

B - Banana
R - Rice
A - Applesause
T - Toast

In addition, also try the following:
- Starchy foods like potatoes, unsweetened cereals, and crackers
- Vegetables, such as cooked carrots, and non-milk-based soups with noodles, rice, and/or vegetables
- Lean meats
- Yogurt, especially with live, active cultures of lactobacillus acidophilus

Do not consume any dried fruits (e.g. prunes), fatty or spicy foods and milk.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger
CAST: Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci.
DIRECTOR: Joe Johnston
LANGUAGE: English with Chinese subtitles
OPENING: 28 Jul 2011
RUNTIME: 123 mins
RATING: PG-Action Violence

“Captain America: The First Avenger” will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)

One of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, “Captain America: The First Avenger” joins “Thor” on May 6, 2011 and “The Avengers” on May 4, 2012.

========================

My opinion: It's just another superhero movie, forgettable. This is not my type of movie (think: Old times, war film, Nazi). However, I find the hero (after he was transformed) good looking! :)

Do look out for the scenes after the post credits! It's quite a long one compared to the other films, worth it considering the length you waited for the post credits to finish!

A had fever

For some reason, Aaron is down with fever. Could he have gotten the colds during his swim? He seldom had fever or was sick.

He woke us up at 5 a.m. He felt so hot. I measured his temperature, it was 38.2 deg C. I quickly woke up CP, together we fed him Panadol medicine and applied the fever patch over his forehead. After that, he had a good sleep with us for another 3 hours.

Took him first thing to the doctor after his milk. He looks fine during the day. While sleeping, he coughed onto his bed again. Thank God it wasn't a big mess and our helper was a great help, which allowed us to concentrate on looking after Aaron. I was so tired out the other night that I didn't know he also coughed onto himself and the bed. Again, thank God CP heard and our helper was there to change the bedsheets.

We prayed over him for a fast recovery. Sweet dreams, Aaron!

[ Updated on 30 Jul 2011: Baby's fever subsided to 37.4ºC on Wed, 27 Jul but unfortunately, this didn't last. The next day afternoon, the fever escalated to 39ºC after his nap! We've been to two different PDs twice (that's 4 times) and wonder why the medicine didn't work?! We are going to another one tomorrow. Hopefully, Baby will get well instantly! :) ]

[Updated on 02 Aug 2011: Baby's fever finally subsided today (after seeing 5 doctors over 10 days) and stayed constantly below 37ºC. A happy cause! However, what follows next is rashes! Lots of them were spotted around his neck yesterday and today, they spread to his body! :( Heat rashes? Measles? Seen a doc. Fortunately, it's likely fake measles aka 出假麻 or 玫瑰疹!]

Aaron turns 2!

Yep, it's a fast 2 yrs. Our little boy is 2 yrs old. On this special day, we had something fantastic for him.

Off to the Jurong Bird Park we went in the morning, with our helper and his grandparents. Aaron had free entry but then it's free entry for children under 3 yrs of age :) We all also had free entry to the park too, thanks to CP's free passes from her company. Let's hope we can make more use of them. It's available for the zoo too! As it's Aaron's birthday, he get a free scoop of ice-cream, which CP and I gobbled it up. Nope, Aaron doesn't like ice-cream ... not yet, I supposed :)

Lunch was right on top of Jurong Hill behind the park. It's a long winding road up, accessible only by car. Despite the inaccessibility, the restaurant was packed.

Aaron slept on the way back, tired out. After a short rest, we visited out favourite store before another celebration begun.

We had another feast of KFC, pizza and bee hoon before the cake cutting. Cake is complimentary from the booking we had at Traders Hotel.

Coaxing the boy into the seat

The first time we seat Aaron into the car seat, he panicked ... He cried so loud we had to abandon the attempt.

So the seat went to our living room, in plain sight for Aaron to see and play with. Finally, 1 week later, he could settle into it.

So the day came where we put it to the real test, into the car the seat went and Aaron too :)

Thanks to Cousin Melvyn and Janie for the car seat!

Visit to the Barrage

Weather's cloudy, means the sun won't be strong. Well, we usually start out late so the weather suited us very well.

It was our first visit. I'm actually quite impressed with it. The view is amazing!

Finally sold it ... at a paltry sum of $180 ... still, it's free money.

This watch is really small ... even for CP ...

Baby A's 2nd Birthday Celebration

The celebration is over and I think Baby had great fun today! :)

The Theme: Doraemon
We initially wanted the Dinosaurs theme. One night, while we were having extreme fun with A and his toy Doraemon and A was laughing really happily and loudly, an idea struck DC. He suggested the theme "Doraemon". I agreed. Doraemon is the only cartoon character he knows other than Barney.

The Venue: Traders Hotel
We considered quite a lot of places and decided on Traders Hotel. Did a few rounds of negotiation with the hotel and was satisfied with the package they provided.

The Food:
Food was catered by the hotel, probably by Ah Hoi's Kitchen. We added one more staple to the menu. Was satisfied with the food that day.

The Invitation:
An e-card was created and invitation was sent out in prints and in FB event page to relatives and friends. Emails, SMSes and phone calls were also used to inform relatives and friends about the event.

The Party Favors:
This was the difficult part. We had trouble searching for suitable Doraemon stuffs to give out to the children! Went Chinatown Point and Harbourfront Centre's Doraemon shops and only managed to find some Doraemon erasers. We also bought a lot of Doraemon wrapping papers and wanted to diy to make the party bag. Then, we saw a Doraemon pouch on the way home and they were sooo cute that DC decided to grab them and use them as the carrier instead! :) These pouches are hot favorite even for adults! :)

20110710-018-D80

Along with the Doraemon pouch and erasers, we also have Doraemon stickers, biscuits, lollipops, burger gummies and clappers.

The Decoration: Banners and Balloons
I bought a banner that says Happy Birthday and printed a picture of Doraemon and inserted it in the middle.

Doraemon balloons cannot be found in Singapore, not even in HK, so I engaged a balloonist to sculpture Doraemon balloons for every table. The white, light blue and dark blue balloons were provided by the hotel. I bought a round balloon with the words happy birthday on and got the hotel to help pump it, for free.

The Entertainment: Photo Slideshow, Photo Booth, Balloonist and Doraemon movie
We played Baby's photos on a projection screen throughout the lunch.

We had a photo booth in the function room where the guests could take unlimited photos for 2 hours. This was a hot favorite for DC's company's X'mas party every year. We thought it's a good idea to have it for Baby's party too!

20110710-045-D80

We also had a balloonist to do balloon sculpturing for the kids and the kids loved it.

Doraemon movie was played after the cake cutting session.

The Birthday Cake: Doraemon Cake!
Thanks to both my sisters for ordering, collecting and sponsoring the cake. Love the cake! :)

It's a pity the cut pieces came out a bit late. Some guests went back already.

Baby is toddling at long last :)

He started taking independent steps somewhere in mid May 2011. That time, he could only make a few steps but today, he proved that he could walk more than 1 metre, maybe 2! :D He just walked across the dining room! Yesterday, he was just walking from the living room table to his toy shelf!

That's a great piece of news!

Somehow, it's just so coincidental that all these happened after we went for our long-missed Sunday church session and since, we had taken the holy communion together in the house! DC has also been praying with Baby in tongues and all these seems to have worked the miracle! Correction, I should say we always believe that Baby can walk one day but somehow, God is speeding the process up for us! Amen!
