A's down with Flu again

I wonder if there's someone in his childcare centre who passed it to him?

It started on 30 Aug and and, this time it took him two weeks to recover fully. :(

Underwater World Once More

Aaron went Underwater World for the first time today. We planned the outing long ago for this long holiday. Since I've got passes for Underwater World, we thought it's a good time to go. After all, we have not been there for the past 3.5 years. So, a return sounds good to us! Each pass admits 4 adults, we asked DC's parents to come along with us.

We were in time for the pink dolphins and sea lions show at the dolphin lagoon. There, we caught the dolphins leaping out of the water and the sea lions dancing in circles. It must have been an eye-opener for Baby. :)

The above picture was taken in the Underwater World which we went after the dolphin show.

How funny it seems that at different stages of our life, we would return to this same place for a picture! The first time we were there, it was Jun 2001. We were still dating. In Feb 2008, we were there for the CNY flower show and we were married. This is our third visit and we were now parents of a two year old! See the previous photos here.

As usual, we had a great time round the oceanarium on the travelator.

After that, we arranged to meet DC's auntie and uncle at VivoCity. Lunch was at Mache.

Baby had spanish rice.

Daddy had pork knuckle.
20110829-EPL1-05

and Mummy had rosti, grilled chicken wings and ice-cream! :)

Presidential Election 2011

I never thought I would have a chance to cast any vote as a Singapore citizen and now within 3 months, I did it twice (one for GE and one for PE)!

Yes, we've just casted our votes for the most hotly contested Presidential Election! It was a quick one and the station is nearer than the one for GE2011. Most importantly, the journey was sheltered! :)

I wonder which Tan will succeed President S.R. Nathan to become Singapore's 7th President?

Would it be Dr Tony Tan, Mr Tan Kin Lian, Mr Tan Jee Say, Dr Tan Cheng Bock?

LOOK FAR... Listen to the VOICE... Vote with your HEART... Cast with your palm... where does the future lie?

[And the Winner is... Dr Tony Tan!]

Week 21: Every Pregnancy is different

This pregnancy does feel different from the previous one. :)

1) I crave for chocolate cakes during my first pregnancy. This time, I do not have any particular craving but always hunger for food and I snack on biscuits and break more.

2) I don't throw up as much as I do compared to the first pregnancy. I can stand the smell of lavender but I suffered serious side effects after that! Read about it here.

3) I don't suffer from leg cramps now.

4) I had breakouts on my face now. First pregnancy? Not that I remember!

5) I've not swell a lot this time except for the tummy. Maybe because the tummy has been stretched before, it's bigger now!

Gender Determined

A is 25 months old

A is now 2 years and 1 month old.

He's shown great improvement in both his gross and fine motor skills I must say! He's independent now and likes to roam around every corner of the house. He's got enough strength to on and off switches (some of our light switches are pretty tight)!

He refuses to sit down to eat his meals but prefer to either roam around or be carried around. Although tiring, at least there's a method now to have him complete his meal. Gone are the days where he just ate a few bites and quit! :) Somehow, his appetite seems to increase after we enrolled him in the childcare sessions...

He's shown great interest in the windows and doors. He even knows how to turn the key to unlock the gate! The flip side is sometimes at night, he would ask for the "Gee" (keys) to open the door lock! He also likes to play with Daddy's car key at night before bed.

He can easily pull off his socks when asked and he greets everyone he sees. He calls his "Ah Ma", "Ah Ye", "Ah Gu", "Yi Yi" and "Hi" to everyone else.

We played host on National Day and I'm horrified to see A gobbled up the packet of chips non-stop while his cousins were at the balcony watching the parachutes and planes flying by. He is like a bottomless pit, always wanting to snack now!

He loves the playhouse and playground. We tried to bring him to the great outdoors every week. He's been to the Marina Barrage, Jurong Bird Park and MacRitchie Reservoir and swimming at his 表姑婆's house and Fairmont hotel.

He developed persistent fever, cough and runny nose right after his birthday. Rashes broke out after the fever subsided, aka fake measles. He had to skip school for 2 weeks because of this! DC and I also caught the flu bug from him. Fortunately, all are well now and he returned to school after the National Day celebration. :)

Week 20: FA Scan

Went for Week 20 scan at TMC today early in the morning. This test checks the structure of the fetus and the blood flow.

The fetus is 300g now and the gender is known! Both of us were rather disappointed cos we both wished for the other. But, come to think of it, most people consider this as a perfect family combi.

After the detailed scan was done, I was asked to go in for a second test which I find baffled. I found out later that my doctor requested for an additional measurement of the blood flow to the placenta. How thoughtful!

But, this time he didn't call me to inform me of the result right after the report has been submitted to him... Hmm...

Aaron's First Fireworks

It's been a real long time since I had taken photos of fireworks. I wanted to have a go this year but in comfort :) So I booked a room at Fairmont Hotel with the Marina view, under the NDP package.

Price is at $442 after a 10% discount for Feed at Raffles members. It comes with breakfast for 2, complimentary 24-hr parking and late checkout. As Fairmont's President Club member, I get free local calls and Internet access too. 2 days before, the hotel staff called to informed that we could check-in early morning. Fantastic, the package had gotten even sweeter!

Lunch was a leisurely affair at Fairmont's Szechuan Court. We had a few dim sum dishes and the set meal. Again, we get 50% off for Feed at Raffles!

Slow-cooked chicken roll, wrapped with seafood and basil leave in mild spicy soy sauce.
20110809-034-EPL1

Braised shredded fish lip and crab meat in dried scallop broth.
20110809-035-EPL1

Steamed cod with chopped garlic in soy sauce. (Fresh but the sauce is salty)
20110809-036-EPL1

Vegies with "super" mini abalone.
20110809-037-EPL1

Black olive fried rice with tiger prawns.
20110809-038-EPL1

Dessert of the day. Dragonfruit with sago. I love the vanilla milk but CP likes it in Walls Magnum form :)
20110809-042-EPL1

Pineapple tarts.
20110809-044-EPL1

Aaron also tried each dish except for the dessert. It's because he thought it's milk!!! I think he loved them all. Maybe it's lunch and on a public holiday. There are only dim sum and set menu. I don't see any spicy choice, characteristic of Szechuan cuisine.

After a nap and a swim with Aaron, it's time for the NDP parade and fireworks. We invited my brother, CP's sis, my cousin and their families to join in the fun.

There's food ...
20110809-084-D80

... and wine!

The Family Three.
20110809-063-D80

The Singapore flag.
20110809-073-D80

The fireworks.
20110809-097-D80

The people.
20110809-110-D80

... wine again ... free from Feed at Raffles at Szechuan Court.

Outing to MacRitchie Reservoir

It's amazing how God has blessed me. With the car available to me till mid-Oct, I wanted to make sure we make full use of it, to Aaron's benefit.

This Sat morning, it was cloudy here, almost like it was going to rain. I prayed to God for good weather still. By the time we reached MacRitchie, the clouds had broke and it was hot. Well, it's 10 a.m. by then ... Despite the sun, Aaron did manage to have a good time!

The makeover to the entrance of the reservoir is amazing. There is ample parking space available, more greenery and the cafe had been moved there too.

Aaron had a good workout. He walked and walked, perspired and couldn't bear to leave!
