Staycation at Fairmont

The much anticipated staycation turned out to be quite a damper when A developed high fever just days before the stay!

The last time we went (last year) he had fever too! However, it did not stop him from eating the chips with gusto later on ...

The Fairmont Premier room. Newly renovated. However, this was much smaller than the Premier room we stayed in last year. Room rate is $248++, includes breakfast. I had a room upgrade using a Feed at Raffles voucher.

I really liked this soap! Le Labo Rose 31. Can't seem to find it anywhere in Singapore.

Our signature photo. This was a rather impromptu pose by the kids but it turned out to be the best.

In-room dining. I had bourbon coke, CP had Singapore Sling and we all had chips.

Dinner was at Prego's. I found out that OCBC had a better offer than Feed at Raffles' discount. 30% off compared to FAR's 25%. Good. My parents joined us too and they were pretty ok with the food.

A had seabass and a bit of spaghetti from B's plate. Rather expensive for the little portion of fish though.

Delicious bread.

I found we kept ordering back the same appetizers. Maybe because they were good ... here was poached octopus - Insalata di Polpo.

Pan-seared scallops - Capesante.

Seared foie-gras. Good, cripsy on the outside, soft on the inside - Fegato Grasso.

Linguine Vongole e Bottarga - Too salty. Now I faintly remembered we did say it was salty before ... oops ... hopefully not for the next time. It did go well with the bread.

Hawaii pizza. I liked thin-crust pizzas!

Roasted pork belly - Pancetta de Maiale. Very good. Crispy skin with juicy fats and succulent meat.

Desserts, pana cotta. Nice, milky and creamy.

Of course, we all liked the tiramisu!

Nothing much had changed at Prego's after all these years.

The bar Anti:dote seemed interesting. So after a short rest, we headed down for drinks. The kids were wild over the chips again. B even took the empty bowl to ask for seconds.

CP had the Corpse Reviver ... It's sour ...  No wonder it could bring the dead back to life!

I had the Marina Julep ... It tasted like medicine :(

The kids munching on the chips like there was no tomorrow.

Breakfast was good. Good selection of food.

Another Staycation

I got word of this offer from Feed at Raffles membership. $200++ for a night stay at Fairmont Hotel, inclusive of breakfast and dinner!

What a deal, how can we not take it?!! So off we went for our 4th hotel stay this year with Baby A.

Initially we were given this rather cramped and dark room, with a long walkway.

However, CP and I had stayed here before and we know the room was much better. Baby A also started to whine the moment he stepped in. So we requested for a change of room. After some hassling with the front desk, they managed to give us another one.

Much better now!

No complains with this. I really like the spacious bathroom with raindrop shower.

Dinner is complimentary, at Plaza Market Cafe. Service was quite bad. No one clear our plates and we had to wait about 30 min for the baby chair, even though we had a reservation. I doubt I'll ever go there again. Food is local asian, with a bbq grill section.

Breakfast is at Prego. Again, we waited very long for a baby chair. What's with this hotel ... they had a lack of baby chairs ...

Huge pot of coffee ...

After breakfast, Baby A had a swim. He was scared of the water still. Halfway through, he simply gave up struggling and lay on the float to sleep.

After that, it's checkout time and a rush to another birthday party!

Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary

Yep, two years had already passed and we had settled quite comfortably into married life. Anyway, this day is a good excuse to add a bit of spice into our lives and on the downside, also burn a hole in my pocket ...

So we spent the Sunday (eve actually) at Fairmont Singapore, level 16th. I thought it'll be very convenient to drop by to Equinox at Swissotel Stamford next door for dinner.

The view at Equinox was great and despite hearing from friends that the food was so-so, it turned out to be otherwise.

I think I enjoyed the food here the most, even more so than Morton's, Lawry's or Top of the M. Mmmm ... Angus House was pretty good also ...

No brainer, we went for the degustation menu and a couple of cocktails. My aim was to stuff myself full and oh boy, it's a wish come true :)

1st appetiser - "Crab with avocado salad"

Can't remember the exact name but it's a very unique taste coupled with the avacado sauce base and some jelly-like bits. The crabmeat was so fresh and sweet.

2nd appetiser - Mushroom Forest

I'm a sucker for mushroom soup. I especially like this type, also served at other places, where the mushroom was all finely minced.

3rd appetiser - Foie gras
Orange and Sichuan Pepper Marmalade,Honey Cake and Vanilla

Yes it's cruel but it's fantastically, meltingly delicious as well. We each had a whole chunk of it. Suprise suprise, I get another piece of it with my tenderloin steak as well. I think I am "foie gras-ed" ... One nitpick though, it's a bit on the salty side.

Then that's where the honeyed cake and the marmalade citrus round the plate comes in. It's a perfect foil to the richness of the foie gras.

Main course - Steak Tenderloin
Wild Mushroom Fricassee, Chestnut Purée, Truffle Sauce

I'm suprised to find another piece of foie gras on top of the steak, similar to Garibaldi's. Do they copy each other's style? For the first time, I had enough of foie gras for the night. Again, the steak was juicy and nicely grilled, the way all steak should be.

Main course - Miso Glazed Cod
Crushed Potatoes, Edamame Beans, Sake Mirin Dressing

Dessert - Hazelnut chocolate bar

I never like mint ice-cream so I'm suprised I find this dessert superb. I guess the reason the chef pair the two contrasting characters together is that they perfectly compliment each other. After a bite of the exceedingly sweet choclate, wash it down with a bit of the mint ice-cream and you are ready to start over again! The ice-cream sure looked like some bird egg though ...

Some shots from our room to end the night.

Celebration isn't over yet. It's on to a photo shoot the next day!
