6th ROM Wedding Anniversary

It was a surprise for CP. Baby A and I went down to our favourite store at Ngee Ann City to get something for her. Tomorrow, I would be back in-camp so we had to celebrate it a day earlier. CP had no idea. We were very busy these few weeks, much more for CP that she totally forgotten about this occasion.

Baby A is a good friend with the store manager. She kept him busy while I decide on what to get for CP. Anyway, we knew Tracy for a few years now. Sort of like friends rather than customers.

We met CP at Gleneagles, then off we went to Angus Steak House for an early dinner. We quite like the food a few years back, so I suggested it.

Baby A had some of our carrot soup and made a mess ... he even stained his Polo Ralph big time ... Let's hope the bleach works ...

I then had CP opened her present. She was actually disappointed when she saw the pouch ... She didn't need another pouch ...

However, she opened up when she saw what it actually was.

We both had the set. As usual, I had steak, Kagoshima beef to be exact @ $150++.

It was so fatty ... so much fats that I was sick from it halfway through. The fat wasn't evenly marbled ...

On the other hand, CP's cod fish tasted much better. Worth it @ $40++

Nearing the end, Baby A started to get agitated ... spilt milk ...

Birthday Treat 2

Ok, it's more like I wanted steak but CP isn't complaining. She likes the desserts here. After Baby A had his little swim, it's off to Dan Ryan's again.

Nice loaf of bread and cake to start.

The steak here never disappoints.

Striploin done medium.

Lasagna for CP.

Brownie for dessert.

Not forgetting our precious baby A, we found something for him over at Burberry ION too!

Nov Celebration 3 - Les Amis

After yesterday night, I really thought hard about bringing baby Aaron along to Les Amis. In the end, we still went ahead. As we were reaching there, it started to pour. Was that a sign of things to come ...?

Les Amis was a restaurant that CP had wanted to go for a long time. Somehow, we have been to a number of fine dining restaurant but not Les Amis. What better time to go than on my birthday month.

We went expecting greatness and were not disappointed. Truly deserving of being in the Top 10 of the Miele Guide.

Great service, the door was opened even before we stepped up to the entrance. Our stroller was carried up by the attendant and we were shown to our private dining room.

MY worse fears came true. Baby Aaron started throwing tantrums again. Back to feeding him again, in turns.

Then he pooed ...

Well, in the end, it was still an enjoyable lunch, much more than Longbar Steakhouse the previous evening. The rain cleared up by the time we finished, which aptly summed up the situation - 雨过天晴.

Finally, my birthday gifts. We walked over to ION Orchard after lunch and chanced upon this pair of cufflinks from Burberry. Well, needless to say, CP bought it for me as she bought all my cufflinks. Nice!

That was a bonus gift. My actual gift was discovered by me two days before in our home - LV Boston Reversible belt! Doubly nice!!

Nov Celebration 2 - Longbar Steakhouse

This year's birthday celebrations is quite special, we have a new member to the family. Naturally, we would like to bring him along with us for the celebrations. However, when I make a reservation at Raffles Longbar Steakhouse, it was with some apprehension as baby Aaron is most fussy in the evening.

It was quite a nice place actually. Tables were placed spaciously apart. The kitchen was an open area. We weren't sitting near the open kitchen so we didn't get the food smell on us.

20091111-WS120-04 20091111-WS120-02

Well, baby Aaron indeed threw tantrums. We also had to feed him during our meal, CP and I taking turns so that we each can finish our food. Not exactly a fine dining experience but we just accept it that this is going to be a part of our lives.

20091111-WS120-14

I had Australian Wagyu steak. Sadly, if you had tried Kobe or Matsusaka beef before, all the other wagyu beef paled in comparison. It was quite nicely done though, slightly charred on the outside and juicy inside. The marbling wasn't even, you can bite into large pieces of fat here and there.

20091111-D80-13

CP had swordfish steak. Not too good actually because it was too thick and chunky a piece. Rather dry.

20091111-D80-15

The food was quite salty and we can actually bite into granules of salt almost all the items we ordered.

Dessert was quite a nice raspberry chocolate fudge cake. The raspberry flavour helps to offset the richness of the chocolate.

Finally, I get a cheeseckae to take home, compliments from AMEX. Nice! Well, baby Aaron's tantrums had certainly make me think twice about bringing him to Les Amis for lunch tomorrow. We'll see ...

Tokyo Trip

The posts on our Tokyo trip are finished. This was truly a trip well worth the price and the experiences were as refreshing as the first time.

It was in this trip that we first tried Kobe beef and all sorts of other beefs... we love Japan so much that we feel like going back the moment we reached Singapore. Singapore is just too warm and humid...

Read about our travel experiences here.

Tampopo

A friend recommended this Japanese restaurant at Liang Court but warned of the long queue. SO off we went to check it out after chuch in the morning. Even in the afternoon, it was packed.

We didn't mind counter seats facing the kitchen, so we got in immediately. It's hot facing the kitchen, but as we just came in from the cold pouring rain, it wasn't too bad. Well, you can catch all the cooks in action too.

Tokusen Sushi - $43
Tokusen Sushi (Tampopo)
Thankfully the uni sushi tasted alright, no fishy taste there. A pity it's just one, I could have slurped more of it but probably it contributed to a significant part of the plate's price.

Wafu Steak - $16.8
Wafu Steak (Tampopo)

Shabu Ramen - $13.8
Shabu Ramen (Tampopo)
Pork Bone Kyushu Ramen made from Japanese black pig.

Phew ... we got to stop eating Japanese for a while. It's too expensive in Singapore.

To top it off, we had ice-cream from the basement to round it off ... there are a whole of Japanese eating joints there also!

Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary

Yep, two years had already passed and we had settled quite comfortably into married life. Anyway, this day is a good excuse to add a bit of spice into our lives and on the downside, also burn a hole in my pocket ...

So we spent the Sunday (eve actually) at Fairmont Singapore, level 16th. I thought it'll be very convenient to drop by to Equinox at Swissotel Stamford next door for dinner.

The view at Equinox was great and despite hearing from friends that the food was so-so, it turned out to be otherwise.

I think I enjoyed the food here the most, even more so than Morton's, Lawry's or Top of the M. Mmmm ... Angus House was pretty good also ...

No brainer, we went for the degustation menu and a couple of cocktails. My aim was to stuff myself full and oh boy, it's a wish come true :)

1st appetiser - "Crab with avocado salad"

Can't remember the exact name but it's a very unique taste coupled with the avacado sauce base and some jelly-like bits. The crabmeat was so fresh and sweet.

2nd appetiser - Mushroom Forest

I'm a sucker for mushroom soup. I especially like this type, also served at other places, where the mushroom was all finely minced.

3rd appetiser - Foie gras
Orange and Sichuan Pepper Marmalade,Honey Cake and Vanilla

Yes it's cruel but it's fantastically, meltingly delicious as well. We each had a whole chunk of it. Suprise suprise, I get another piece of it with my tenderloin steak as well. I think I am "foie gras-ed" ... One nitpick though, it's a bit on the salty side.

Then that's where the honeyed cake and the marmalade citrus round the plate comes in. It's a perfect foil to the richness of the foie gras.

Main course - Steak Tenderloin
Wild Mushroom Fricassee, Chestnut Purée, Truffle Sauce

I'm suprised to find another piece of foie gras on top of the steak, similar to Garibaldi's. Do they copy each other's style? For the first time, I had enough of foie gras for the night. Again, the steak was juicy and nicely grilled, the way all steak should be.

Main course - Miso Glazed Cod
Crushed Potatoes, Edamame Beans, Sake Mirin Dressing

Dessert - Hazelnut chocolate bar

I never like mint ice-cream so I'm suprised I find this dessert superb. I guess the reason the chef pair the two contrasting characters together is that they perfectly compliment each other. After a bite of the exceedingly sweet choclate, wash it down with a bit of the mint ice-cream and you are ready to start over again! The ice-cream sure looked like some bird egg though ...

Some shots from our room to end the night.

Celebration isn't over yet. It's on to a photo shoot the next day!
