How Wedding in China Differs from Ours

I was at my parent's place when they showed the video of my nephew from china's wedding ceremony. If you're still expecting to see people carrying the bride in sedan and the traditional bridal rituals, then be disappointed! (Not sure if this is still practice in other parts of China though)

It seems that the people there gave out the DVD to guests (they even make videos for funerals!). Over here, we only showed the highlights of the day to guests only but even then, I didn't even engage a videographer for my own wedding... so, no day highlights was projected on my wedding. :P

Anyways, here are some snapshots of the video that I've taken. It's not difficult to spot the difference in customs between us and them...

Her entourage consists of Audis, Lexus and BM. They also had flowers tied to their cars but much more!

OMG, look at the bride's hands! They were rounded by thick gold bangles and rings and I heard that there were no space on her hands for the golds that they ended up wrapping the golds on her waist! She had to wear them for the whole day! From what I see from the video, there is also return gift e.g. gold chains, ring, etc that the bride had to wear it on the guests and after that, bride and guest were supposed to turn back-to-back then turn back to shake hands. Don't know what these means but this process took very long (lotsa relatives around). Seems like only the bride is involved, the groom just stood behind. Actually I don't mind doing this once in a life time just to bag all the gold! :P

All guests wore RED (well, almost all). Those who were not in red I observed were in grey or some other neutral colours... The groom was in grey suit while the bride was in the traditional "gua". Hmm, I wonder how many of us would have used the red with grey combination here?

Dad and Mum were in the video. Yup, they went China for the wedding celebration!

I wonder why she wore a black veil over her head? Thought black color is inauspicious? Hmm...

Lastly, a picture of my nephew from China with her wife in their new bedroom. The eating of sweet stuffs to symbolise happy marriage is about same as what we practice here...

Cheers to him for getting a pretty wife! :)
