Accessorise up with LVOE

My brother-in-law's wedding is coming up. Well, to me, a belt, bag or any other fashion accessory plays an equally important part to the overall outfit. So where else do CP and I decided to go? :D

My 15-month old Baby

Here's my 15-month Baby. Every time I think of him or see his pictures, I can't help but to give a big smile! He's such a cutie! :)

In the photo, he was playing with his musical jungle toy. The blue ball in the photo was on the way rolling down the slide...

He has two new teeth growing out from his top gums (total 4) and probably that was the cause of his loss of appetite for his meals and first milk intake last month but he seems to have recovered from it these few days. *Relieved*

MIL hurt her foot early this month and we took a couple of days leave to take care of Baby. This created chance for us to spend more time with our darling. It is actually quite a breeze taking after him now that he can play on his own and understand instructions. We sit him next to us at the dining table during meals now. He likes adult food, always wanting to have a share of what we are eating. So, we allow him to taste a little of everything we eat.

Baby had fun playing with his toys since Children's Day, celebrating his cousin's 3rd birthday, enjoying his first buffet lunch, attending his first cocktail party and capturing attention wherever he goes! :P

Day by day, it's fun to play with him and watch him play by himself:
- He loves music and loves to press the button on his toy guitar for songs and then shake his body to the rhythm.
- Sometimes he flaps his arms (as though a bird flapping its wings), then claps his hands and expect you to clap with him. :)
- Other times when he wants to get some things and he knows he couldn't get it, he will hold our hands in that direction and expect us to get it for him.
- He is more willing to crawl and he crawls faster and longer distance now. He loves to seek for his Mummy and Daddy esp when we walk into the room, out of his sight.
- He can hum melodies! (DC was pleasantly surprised when he heard it for the first time!)
- He mimics me wiping the table after his meal. Cute!
- He throws the objects on his hands as instructed and it's so amusing to see him dropped them on the floor and he was expecting them to go far! Ha, doubly cute!
- He make sounds that sound like words e.g. moo moo, mao (cat), there and he is beginning to pronounce Dad-dy. How exciting!

and... just discovered today that his open palm and closed fists actions means "Come here to me" or 来! All along I thought that was "Bye" Hehe...

Another discovery today: I bought a new suit for him today. I showed it to him, pointed at the button and said "Button". To my surprise, he looked at his own button on the pajamas he was wearing and pointed to it! And I was expecting him to play with the buttons on the new clothes! Oh, and he could stretch out his hands into his pajamas when I instruct! I love pleasant surprises! :D

Night Light Causes Weight Gain

Unexpected!

Scientist has now proven in mice experiments that weight gain is correlated with a number of environmental factors including the extent of light exposure at night!

Warning: "...Something about the light at night was making the mice in the study want to eat at the wrong times to properly metabolize their food!"

If the true is for humans, you who want to ward off weight may want to turn off the night light and eat at regular hours!

No wonder! Now, I'm resolved to turn off the lights earlier and sleep earlier and more! Best if I could sleep at the same time with Baby! :)

Extracted from the Straits Times:

Lights at night, weight gain link

WASHINGTON - TOO much light at night appears to lead to weight gain, according to a report released on Monday, based on studies of mice that provide fresh clues on obesity.

The researchers found that mice exposed to a dim light at night over eight weeks had a weight gain that was about 50 per cent more than other mice that lived in a standard light-dark cycle.

'Although there were no differences in activity levels or daily consumption of food, the mice that lived with light at night were getting fatter than the others,' said Laura Fonken, lead author of the study and a researcher at Ohio State University.

The study, which appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal, said the weight gain could be a sign that light has an effect on the metabolism. 'Something about light at night was making the mice in our study want to eat at the wrong times to properly metabolise their food,' said Randy Nelson, co-author of the study and professor of neuroscience and psychology at Ohio State.

If these results are confirmed in humans, it would suggest that late-night eating might be a particular risk factor for obesity, Mr Nelson said. In one study, mice were housed in one of three conditions: 24 hours of constant light, a standard light-dark cycle that included 16 hours of light and eight hours of dark, or 16 hours of daylight and eight hours of dim light.

Results showed that, compared to mice in the standard light-dark cycle, those in dim light at night had significantly higher increases in body mass, beginning in the first week of the study and continuing throughout. By the end of the experiment, dim-light-at-night mice had gained about 12 grams of body mass, compared to eight grams for those in the standard light-dark cycle. -- AFP

Timing of eating 'critical'

Mice in constant bright light also gained more than those in the standard light-dark cycle, but Mr Nelson said the mice exposed to dim light was a more important comparison for humans.

Although the mice exposed to dim light did not eat more than others, they did change when they ate, consuming more food at night.

Since the timing of eating seemed significant, the researchers did a second study, with a change: instead of having food freely available at all times, food was restricted to either the times when mice would normally be active or when they would normally be at rest.

In this experiment, mice exposed to the dim light at night did not have a greater gain in body mass than did the others when their food was restricted to times when they normally would be active.

'When we restricted their food intake to times when they would normally eat, we didn't see the weight gain,' Ms Fonken said. 'This further adds to the evidence that the timing of eating is critical to weight gain.' The researchers said the findings offer clues for causes of the obesity epidemic in Western countries.

'Light at night is an environmental factor that may be contributing to the obesity epidemic in ways that people don't expect,' Mr Nelson said. 'Societal obesity is correlated with a number of factors including the extent of light exposure at night.' He said prolonged computer use and television have previously been linked to obesity but because they are associated with a lack of physical activity.

'It may be that people who use the computer and watch the TV a lot at night may be eating at the wrong times, disrupting their metabolism,' Nelson said.

'Clearly, maintaining body weight requires keeping caloric intake low and physical activity high, but this environmental factor may explain why some people who maintain good energy balance still gain weight.' -- AFP

LV's Le Cafe Litteraire

We were quite surprised to receive this in our mailbox.

20101012-D80-03

It was an invitation to LV's cocktail event at their store in Ngee Ann City. Not knowing what to expect, we went down with Baby A looking for some party fun.

Well, seems like it was an occasion to reward their customers and also to familiarise them with some of their personalisation services. Here's the hot-stamping machine that is used to initial that wallet, bag or tag.

At each of the designated stations, we collected passport stamps on our little LV journal book. There is tarot reading, shadow-cutting. Here's my shadow, expertly cut out within a minute.

Special Date, Special Gifts

Another year of memories between CP and myself. For the past 1 yr, we had a little rascal to keep us busy. It really changed our lives. We hardly went to the cinemas, no fine dining and hardly any shopping, except for baby stuff :)

Last year, CP and I celebrated at Jaan. This year, we included Baby A! We had lunch at the Bar and Billiard Room, Raffles Hotel.

The moment we stepped in, the staff begun fussing over Baby A. Well, he's cute, isn't he?
20101009-EPL1-01

They have quite a sumptuous spread with nice desserts. Didn't know CP like oysters ... hmm.

Baby A also had his share :)

After that, we had a walk at our favourite store and proceeded to ION. How can we forget Baby A, right? I knew Burberry would not disappoint. We found a cool nice shirt for Baby A!

Small world

While we were having our dinner at the nearby golf course, a friend of my dad whom he didn't see for some years saw him and came over to say hello. He was having dinner with his family at another table.

Some time later, my friend surprised me when she came over and tapped me on my shoulder. She was sitting at the same table as my dad's friend and my dad's friend turned out to be her future father-in-law! We might be meeting up 2 weeks later with the rest of the gang. So, I didn't expect to see her there. What a pleasant coincidence!

Here's Baby and me at the dinner. Friend was sitting at the table behind! (Her table not shown)

It's great to meet old friends and know that they are doing well... in this case, my friend be getting married just before X'mas. Congrats! :)

Children's Day 2010

We didn't have anything planned for Baby today, Oops!

But, but...After work, we bought toys for him, not just one but 3! ;)

We were home earlier than usual and were greeted by a pleasant surprise. We discovered improvement in Baby gross motor skills that was unknown to us 2 days ago! *Happy*

Here's DC and him playing the Polar Coaster at home:

It was sheer coincidence that they both wore the same color shirt today and in the pic, they were like mirror image (except that one is super and the other mini size) and, they were both touching their feet. I'm going to name this pic "Like father, Like son"! Hehe :P

Have fun!
