The Legend Reconstructed

DC completed this korean series yesterday. Both of us were disappointed with the ending and decided to re-construct our very own ending...

The Background (Warning: SPOILER ahead!)
The story is based loosely on a korean myth, about a king, 2 women and 4 heavenly Gods.

桓雄: The son of the god in the heavenly world. He was said to have brought three Guardians of the world: the Blue Dragon(青龍), the White Tiger(白虎) and the Black Turtle-snake(玄武). His heavenly artifact is the Cheongung (天弓) which normally takes the form of a fancy cylinder and enlarges to form a glowing white bow. It is said to be able to either kill or give life to anyone it shoots. He returned to Heavaen and came back as Damdeok.

青龍: The ruler of the East and the guardian of the clouds, hence the alternative name Unsa (雲師: Cloudmaster). Its heavenly artifact is a bluish stone that looks slightly like a shellfish. It is said to activate when "The King of Jushin feels 'cold mercy' in his heart." When activated, it can weaken the power of the wielder of fire. It was also shown to speed the healing of its master when in physical contact with him.

白虎: The ruler of the West and the guardian of the winds, hence the alternative name Pungbaek (風伯: Windleader). Its heavenly artifact is a white twisted piece of metal. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'pure courage' in his heart."

玄武: The ruler of the North and the guardian of the rain, hence the alternative name Usa (雨師: Rainmaster). Its heavenly artifact is a black cylinder that is usually shaped as a long twisted walking stick. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'dark rage' in his heart." When it awakens, the time stops along with everything other than its master and the King of Jushin, enabling the leader of the Four Guardians to identify the King.

朱雀: The ruler of the South and the guardian of the fire. It is not a subordinate of 桓雄, and was portrayed as becoming evil when its 'host' is engulfed with anger. Its heavenly artifact is a large red gem orb. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'burning passion' in his heart." It glows in red when activated.

Actual Ending:

Damdeok destroyed his Heavenly Bow and returned to Heaven. This action caused all the masters of the 4 heavenly artifacts (神物的主人) to die along with him. All his generals died, only Sujini and Damdeok's son survived the last battle.

Our very own version:

The 3 神物的主人 jointly fought the Dark Phoenix but could not defeat her. (This calls for lots of exciting actions and visual effects which we enjoyed.)

Having no choice, Damdeok eventually used his Heavenly Bow to kill her (just like what Hwang Woong did to Sae-Oh).

All his loyal generals (including the 3 神物的主人) lived and won the battle. Damdeok, Sujini and his son lived happily ever after.

Despite the unexpected ending, there are still reasons to watch the drama, the casts being one of them! :D I managed to find their current photos from the Internet. Lee Ji Ah is so pretty, Bae Yong Jun is as handsome as ever and... Hmm, Lee Philip looks very cool too!

This is also for the first time in Korea, a king has been associated with the Four Gods. King Gwanggaeto is generally considered as one of the greatest rulers in the history of Korea. The Four Guardians were found engraved in his tomb (as in any other king's), inspiring the drama. * For more info, visit here
