X'mas Celebrations 2008

Both DC and I both agreed that the atmosphere this x'mas year was not as intense as last year's and the year before.

Maybe because DC's right foot is giving him problems again (although it's a different problem this time) and I'm always feeling very sick... these kinda put damper on our plans to celebrate the festive season.

So, we spent this year with no x'mas tree set up in our home, no festive pictures of shopping malls x'mas decorations, no party organised at our home, limited gathering with friends and limited gift exchanges...

Although that said, we did however participated in the following celebrations:

1) DC attended his new company x'mas dinner on 13 Dec 08.

That's DC's boss giving out presents... I'm sure all the kids loved him that night! :)

2) CP attended her company x'mas lunch on 17 Dec 08.

Food was very quickly grabbed. Mistaken as beef, I took 2 pieces of mutton and had a hard time swallowing down... mutton is really not my type of meat!

3) CP got her first x'mas gift on 19 Dec 08.

This was no whiskey. Sender's names are written on the tag: "JackDanielle" - Jack & Danielle (Innovative!)

On the same day, CP helped out in the gingerbread house decoration contest and our team got 3rd prize for that! (Only 3 teams participated, LOL)

The Interior:

4) CP attended the cross-divisional x'mas party on 22 Dec 08. This is what she got for the gift exchange:

5) DC and CP had x'mas eve lunch at Hard Rock Cafe and exchanged gifts.

On X'mas eve, CP also:
- received another gift from a colleague (no time to return, next year perhaps)
- gave Jack and Danielle each a box of Royce chocolates as gifts.

6) DC and CP attended x'mas party organised by cousin at cousin's wife's culinary studio on x'mas eve. DC can't forget the fragrant rice...

7) DC and CP had x'mas cum birthday buffet lunch at Vienna Restaurant (United Sq) with CP's family on 25 Dec 08. Only Ah Boy got his presents this year.

That's all for this year's christmas for us! It seems that we did have some fun afterall... Wish you had fun this festive season too.

Hooked on MAC

That's it, I am looking for buyers for the recently bought Fujitsu laptop.

Reason: Mac is so much more fun!

I am going to get an iMac for CP. Probably it will cost more since I plan to buy Office and maybe some photo-editing software.

I think I will move over to the Mac camp in future. I am already using a Mac at work.

Well, now if only there are takers for the Fujitsu ...

Started Spring Cleaning

Last week, we had my desk cleared (so that I have space to put my company laptop. With the new laptop we've bought, the space becomes more challenging!) DC helped to clear my drawer and we threw away lots of unwanted documents and books that ought to be dumped long ago!

This weekend, we targeted our fridge and realised we had lots of expired food - biscuits, soft drinks and jam!

Lesson learnt: Never buy more than what we need!

Maybe next week, we could look into the shoe cabinet. I'm sure there's a bit of throwing required there. :)

Lunch at Peach Garden

We had a farewell lunch for two of our aunts (Yi Ma's daughter) from China at Peach Garden 桃苑, Thomson Plaza.

The dim sum was not too bad (better than Fortunate's, only complaint was that the staff took ages to push the dim sum cart over - we had to get the captain to bring the dishes to our table from the faraway carts). The roast duck & meat were very good. Too bad, the two aunts didn't appreciate the shark's bone soup (and the most expensive!) we've ordered for them! The soup was good but only Mum, sis, DC and me drank them all up...

After lunch, Dad ordered some roast meat and took it to Ah Ma. She loves it! Despite having no appetite for meat lately, she took in 3 pieces! :)

Seoul and HK posts are out ...

It was never an easy job to draft post-travel blogs when we're back home. There were just too many things for us to do before we can sit down and blog - unpack lugguage, wash clothes, download, compile, edit and upload the travel pictures, and the routine endless housework!

Thanks to DC who found time here and there to blog, the travel posts are finally completed and tata, here're all the links of this trip:

Moving on ...

Today is the my last day in the company. On Monday, I'll be reporting to a new place. My colleagues have all pooled their resources together to give me this:

It's real thoughtful of them! I feel sad to be leaving them so soon but at the same time, excited about the new challenges ahead ... ok, maybe a bit apprehensive as well.

Anyway, a big thanks to the SG Team!

A Big Mac for a laptop

Does any company give you a Macbook Pro as a laptop? Mine does and I'm not in a multimedia company.

I was quite shocked to see it. I know nothing about the Mac ... I'm sure God heard my mumurings about getting a Mac, so here it is.

City of Ember

Rating: PG
Consumer Advice: Frightening Scene (CP: Not that frightening actually)
Genre: Action/Adventure/Fantasy
Language: English
Director: Gil Kenan
Main Cast: Bill Murray (as Mayor Cole), Tim Robbins (as Loris Harrow), Saoirse Ronan (as Lina Mayfleet) , Harry Treadaway (as Doon Harrow), Martin Landau (as Sul)
Runtime: 95mins

For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember's once powerful generator is failing... and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. Now, two teenagers in a race against time, must search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence, and help the citizens escape before the lights go out forever.

I had high expectations of it but was kinda disappointed because there weren't a lot of exciting actions. Somehow it's not as thrilling as "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" also by Walden Media. The only thrilling part is the escape boat ride. I wonder if Disneyland would consider making a new attraction since they have one for Journey to the Centre of the Earth. A roller coster boat ride to the surface of the Earth sounds fun! :)

Stomach feeling weird

My stomach has been acting weird this week week starting Tue... it was always tossing and turning inside. I put the blame on that Korean instant noodle that I've cooked and ate on Tue (for that night was the first instant this uncomfiness occurred, so I gathered I had indigestion because of it).

Upmarket's market place

We were in DFS Galleria Scotts when we came across Gucci filled with busy shoppers, few assistants, products all over the counters and not properly displayed. The place was truly in a state of mess and disorder. It was definitely not a sight expected of an upmarket place...

Thailand Blockade to clear finally

The PAD (People's Alliance for Democracy) occupied Suvarnabhumi and the smaller Don Mueang domestic airport last week, stranding 350,000 passengers and causing massive damage to the Thai economy.

The anti-government demonstrators finally agreed yesterday to allow flights to resume from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi international airport after a week-long blockade and after the Thai court dissolved the ruling party and banned the People Power Party leader and executives from Politics for the next 5 years.

The turmoil also forced Thailand to postpone a summit of the Southeast Asian bloc ASEAN, which was due to be held in Chiang Mai in mid-December to March!!

This is it! No more Thailand for me until peace returns!
