Colic Causing Foods

B is quite colicky when she was a newborn. I had to watch my diet very carefully in order not to introduce more gas to her through my breast milk. If your child is like her, you may want to know that these are the colic causing foods and may want to reduce or eliminate the consumption:

- Dairy products
- Caffeinated beverages e.g. coffee, tea, soda
- Soy products
- Peanuts
- Shellfish
- Chocolate
- Citrus fruits
- Wheat
- Chicken
- Beef
- Eggs
- Nuts
- Corn
- Prenatal vitamins (The iron may be irritating to baby. Ask your OB for an alternative if this is the culprit.)
- Gassy vegetables e.g. Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Onions, asparagus, Green peppers, Tomatoes
- Strawberries
- Highly spiced foods
- Legumes
- Some vitamins
- Artificial sweeteners
- Licorice
- Mangoes
- Berries
- Melons
- Grapes
- Oranges
- Lemons
- Stone fruits
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
- Brussel sprouts
- Peas
- Cucumber
- Capsicum
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Radishes
- Cauliflower
- Lentils
- Raw onion
- Strong herbs and spices. (Cayenne, chili, oregano, thyme, marjoram, sage, rosemary)
- Beet greens
- Bok choy
- Chinese cabbage
- Collard greens
- Garden cress
- Horseradish
- Kale
- Kohlrabi
- Mustard greens
- Radishes
- Rutabaga
- Swiss chard
- Turnips
- Turnip greens
