B's hair has grown so long that even with her hair tied up, she kept sweating non-stop. So, we brought her to a nearby $10 express shop at the nearest mall to trim it.
A and I queued up inside the shop while DC pushed B in a stroller outside.
Like the previous time, B did not cry at all and sat relatively still. Here's her after the haircut. *Look so like a boy, ha!*
It's very funny that although A hated cutting hair, he liked to see his sister cut her hair!

Challenging 3 Days
DC was away for a boot camp for 3 days and he went away worrying whether I could cope with the two kids at home alone...
Indeed, it was a very challenging task as DC and I shared half the parenting work each and every day since B was born. Life without him was unimaginable! It didn't help that the 3 of us (A, B and me) were sick!
The 3 days passed by quickly. DC returned today and received our welcoming and warm hugs. I'm happy to announce that I survived these 3 days without much issue! *Proud* :P
But, I've to admit that I did not do it alone. I had lots of help from our families! Thank God for that!
If you are interested, the details are as follows:
Day 1 (Thursday, 26 Jul 2012):
FIL came in the morning to help out. He looked after B while I fed A. Then, I carried B and walked to the nanny's while FIL brought A to his childcare centre. I was working from home that day and at 5+pm, I picked up a call from my FIL telling me that he was coming home as my boy seemed feverish and didn't want to eat. My mum came in the evening to help out. When we went home after our dinner and after picking B, we saw A at home drinking his milk. My maid told me that he was very lethargic before I came back but when he saw me, he was energized! So sweet! I was relieved that he did not have fever. Seeing that he didn't have any food for dinner, my mum cooked fish soup noodles for him and he slurped half of the bowl up! I was glad that his appetite came back but I didn't want him to finish the whole bowl as it was late already and he had to sleep. Coaxing B to sleep was not as easy as I expected as she rejected my mum when she tried to feed her and cried for me. I didn't know she need me specifically to feed her! Fortunately, my tired A slept very quickly and I took over to feed B and brought her to bed, not very far from her usual sleeping time. In the middle of the night, B woke up many many times and I had very limited sleep! :(
Day 2 (Friday, 27 Jul 2012):
I didn't let A go to his childcare centre as he was having runny nose. FIL came in the morning and A only woke up just before I came home from sending B to her nanny's. FIL left when I fed A his milk (he didn't know I was on MC too). He brought lunch for me. A had difficulty taking his nap as his nose was blocked. I had to carry him and he slept on my shoulders. At night, my mum came first and had dinner with me at home (my maid cooked) and my sis came after her dinner. Sis fetched all of us to pick B up. B, like the day before, rejected her milk feed and cried for me. No choice, I had to carry B in the room (A gave his permission to bring his sister in) to feed her. A slept pretty fast even with his sister in the room with him. B slept after an additional milk feed. Day 2 was more manageable as I knew what to expect after Day 1 and I had more help. This night, B slept through and woke up only at 5am. I was more well rested. :)
Day 3 (Saturday, 28 Jul 2012):
DC thought he could come home by noon but didn't know that it would take him until 5.30pm to get home! This was the most challenging day as both A and B were at home! Mum's the best as she came over to help out unconditionally these 3 days. B woke up way before A woke up. When A woke up, B was already fed and I placed her in A's bed for some bonding session with the brother. When mum came over, it was nicely lunch time and I fed A while she carried B (B was getting used to her and didn't actually complain much!). When A napped, I fed B and she had her nap too. When A woke up with his blocked nose, mum carried him. When he was awake, mum helped carry B and I entertained A with activities and bonded with him. The day past quickly and when DC came home, we already opened the door (at the cue of our maid who saw DC's car from the window) to welcome him. We waved at him from the room's window and A was very happy to see his beloved father home! Day 3 was tough but it's all about time management and getting help!

A new washing machine
Our washing machine refused to start 2 days before DC went for his boot camp! What a time to break down! DC had to choose and buy one to replace this yesterday and today, to deliver it to our place.
The people came over earlier than expected and when they shifted the old machine away, I found these underneath it!
A paper shoe cut from newspaper by my previous maid, a dead cockroach and lots of dust!
I had to get the deliverymen to help me throw the cockroach away, it gave me the creeps and I just couldn't do it with my own hands!
The new LG washer was fixed in a very short time and I find it quite easy to use. *love*
It is fantastic. It was so quiet during the wash cycle compared to the old Indesit. Looks like Korea is not just taking the world by storm in the K-pop arena ...

B is 7 months old
My little princess started crawling on 13 Jul. It was a surprise that about one half weeks later, she stands on her own! All that without even sitting upright at 6 months plus!
It was challenging to keep her still now, as at every opportunity she'll flip herself over and start to crawl. And, she crawls fast! She's quite focused in what she wants, sometimes she'll just crawl straight to her target without even looking at the toy that I offered her to get her back in position! She's also getting more and more difficult to be put in the car seat now and would be impatient to sit for more than 10 minutes!
Starting mid of her sixth month, she woke up a number of times at night instead of her usual sleep-through. There was once where I was too tired from the "night shift" that I brought her to our bed and dozed off. DC turned on the iPad and then went to the bathroom to wash up. I was totally unaware that she was crawling towards the iPad unti I heard a loud thump! This caused her to cry for a whole 10 minutes before she could allow herself to be calmed down. Fortunately, it was not serious. From then on, no more sleeping on our bed! She had a knock on her forehead about a week before the fall when she was just learning how to crawl. We realized that she had hurt the very spot on her brother's birthday party as the bruise surfaced on that very day! It must have been painful then, the bruise was bad! *Guilty*
During her brother's birthday party, she cried whenever the relatives wanted to carry her. Haha, the relatives did manage to carry her after she was fed and was in better mood. I received many comments that she looked like me, including my older cousins who still remembered how I looked when I was her age! :) There were also comments that she was very well-fed. :P
She was still on mostly EBM during the day at her nanny's and we just started her on solids on her seventh month. Started with white rice cereal and contrary to what we expected, she did not welcome the new food as much as we thought she would! Maybe it was the spoon feeding part... hope it would be better the next weekend after the nanny trains her during the weekdays!

How fast time flies, I still remember carrying him on my arms when he was born and now he is 3!
We held his birthday celebration 2 days ago and he enjoyed the train ride and slide that we rented for the party! :) He had lots of fun blowing his birthday candles too. However, he missed his fun at his school celebration as he fell sick on that very day!
As mentioned last month, he started to have a mind of his own and always wanted things his way. He shakes his head and bangs the table to show his displeasure. He says "NO" very often now too! He was closer to his daddy now and didn't want me to carry him anymore. I guess he understands that I have to carry his sister.
He's also more and more mischievous. He loves to play with my phone and created trouble by posting a non-sensical fb status and calling a contact on the phone whom I'm not very close to!
I started visiting the library and borrowed lots of books to him. I'm happy to know that he did not reject the books and got interested in some of them! :)
He's still very interested in cars. DC opened and assembled a Thomas the Train railway set that we kept away and he loves it! DC also brought him an highway car set. He loves it too. For his birthday, he got himself a number of car sets and they all made him jumped with joy!
We brought him to church and now, he is independent enough to attend the nursery class on his own! I'm so proud of him! That day at MBS, he learnt how to take picture using his daddy's Oly camera and had fun snapping pictures. :)
He's also very responsive now. When I talk to him or ask him questions, he could answer me quickly. He's still not speaking in sentences but his word base is definitely increasing. His favorite word of the month is "Marymount". This was evolved from "Mickey Mouse" and he later used this as "Marymount", haha. It sounds very cute when he says that!
Next month on National Day, we plan to bring him for yet another staycation and wanted to re-introduce him to the fireworks which his daddy and mummy love to watch! Looking forward to it!

A's 3rd birthday celebration
A's birthday celebration was just over. All of us, including A, was exhausted! Nevertheless, we (esp A) enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! :)
The Theme: Thomas The Train
It was all along Cars theme (as A loves cars very much) until DC decided that Thomas the Train was to be the theme for this year. I was fine with this as the Cars theme seemed to be used by his older cousins already for their past birthday celebrations. Thomas sounds like a great idea as no one has used that before!
The Venue: Hort Park
This year the celebration was held in the Hort Park. The place was quite remote as a lot of our relatives from the older generation did not know the place and we had to post a map of the Hort Park with the directions. I had a family of relatives who even lost their way on the actual day and couldn't make it. What a pity! The place was a heaven with greeneries and scenery, very nice for photo shoots and strolls! We love the venue!
I designed and put up a signboard to tell my guests the location of the MPH.
The Food: Orange Grove
There was a list of caterers that the Hort Park approved and that we must get our buffet from. The choice was clear for us as there was only one that we tried and tested - Orange Grove, under the group of Neo Garden. Due to the restriction from Hort Park, DC had a hard time requesting and negotiating for menu items from Neo Garden to be used in Orange Grove's menu.
The Invitation:
Like last year, we invited most of the younger generation of our guests through the Facebook event page. The older generation were invited through phone calls or our parents. I had a QR code and barcode added in the invitation card too, for those who are interested to decode the message within. :)
The Party Favors:
This was easy compared to last year as there were ready gift packs sold every where. I chose a reusable cup and use that to contain the goodies in. The goodies were: a box of chocolate sticks (yummy!), a puzzle twister, a maze, a sticker and a wristband that says "Full Steam Ahead". I bought plastic wrapper and colored paper to gift wrap them.
The Decoration:
Unfortunately, no decorations was allowed in the venues of Hort Park. I had to engage a balloonist to do up a balloon arch for us. There were many SMS exchanges on the design of the arch. I was unsatisfied with the original design and just had to re-designe it myself. We found the end result satisfactory although I hoped she had used a darker pearl blue instead.
The Entertainment:
DC rented two toys for the kids to play with. A Thomas train and a play slide. They were hot favorites during the celebration. A particularly loves them! I was pleasantly surprised that A wanted to sit on the train. I thought he would have rejected it like he did to a lot of battery kiddy rides! :)
There were also montages of A displayed on the two overhead TVs to entertain the adults. We decided not to project the images to the projector as the images were blocked and shadowed by the balloon arch.
The Birthday Cake:
We were never sick of cakes from Pola. The Thomas cake was sponsored by my sis again this year (Thanks!).
We bought a Number "3" candle for A to blow.
The Presents:
A had a great time tearing open the presents. He received great presents which he loved very much! Thanks for the great presents! :)

Started B on solids
On her 7th month, I started her on solids - white rice cereal. She didn't take spoon very well and I could only manage to feed half pack in a time. eBM was too watery, so I used FM instead (no fear of wastage!).
Here's her on her Bumbo, cute! :)

Shower Crayons. Fun.
Recently, we bought A some crayons for some shower fun. A loves drawing on the shower screen!
This little activity eliminated much of the fear he had for water and he requested to extend his showering time! Needless to say, it increased his bonding with DC. DC also used them as tools to revise A's ABCs with him. :)

A's birthday school celebration: What it turned out to be
We were all ready for A's birthday celebration in school today. I prepared these goodies packs for his friends in his class the night before:
The Theme is Thomas the Train! I wrote the names on the bags.
But, as fate has it, A coughed many times in the morning after he woke up and we had to bring him to the PD's. So the party was off! :(
The childcare centre was informed of the cancellation of the birthday celebration which will take place during tea break at 3pm. It was also during then that I got another piece of bad news - someone from his class has contracted HFMD!
Although the party was cancelled, after A's nap, we still brought him to the childcare centre to deliver the Thomas mini cakes we ordered from Polar Cakes to the kids. I got A to distribute the party pack to the kids and they loved it! :)
Here's us at the centre. DC and A wore the same clothes. :)
We left after the cakes and party packs were distributed. I was sorry that A lost a chance to blow his candles but then again, there's another chance to blow the candles at his actual party!

Recee at Hort Park
DC and I went Hort Park today for a quick briefing on the facilities provided by the birthday venue we chose for A.
The briefing was short and sweet. We were happy with the venue and the surrounding greenery! :)
Here's DC trying out the video projection on the screens.
Ok, now that the venue is fixed, it's now full steam ahead to prepare for other details of the party! :)

I went to get wrapper for the goodie bags and realized that curling ribbons, transparent wrappers and colored papers are not so easily available! The Popular book store nearby had closed down but I was blessed to get all the things that I wanted from the shop next door after searching for a while. :)
At home, I started packing up the birthday favor packs and I like packing goodie bags. I can't wait fo see A's excitement when he gives out the party packs! :)
See that we swept all the choco sticks off from the supermarket shelf! :P
We also managed to settle quite a lot of things from the to-do list. The list is shrinking! :)
The To do list:
1. Decide on a theme.
2. Decide on the date and time of event.
3. Source for posible venues.
4. Decide on a venue.
5. Compile guests list.
6. Create invitation card.
7. Send out invites.
8. Confirm attendance.
9. Decide on activities for the kids.
10. Buy/make decorations.

8. Confirm attendance.

Fireflies in the Sky
As we are walking back to our block, something caught our eyes in the park ahead of us.
Something bright, flying in the sky and there were 4 of them, of different colours. :) They were kites! But they ain't ordinary kites. They were lit up!
We brought the kids closer to the park and watched them roamed in the dark sky for a while. I love the sight of them! I call them dragons in the sky. I was beaming with joy to have seen it in action and felt happy whenever I thought of them! :D
And, of course I took out my camera to capture the moment:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Cast: Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie
Director: Timur Bekmambetov
Genre:Action/ Thriller
Language: English
Release Date:5 July 2012
Running Time:105 minutes
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of one of the U.S.s greatest presidents, and the untold story that shaped that country. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history's greatest hunter of the undead.
===============================================================
A typical Tim Burton's production. Dark, twisted and different.
I had to applaud the one who thought of this plot. It's such a twist!
It's a nice one with happy ending, we enjoyed it.

A is now super clingy to his daddy. He only wants him now, no one else!
It only takes DC 6 months to establish this bond. DC is the first person A will see when he wakes up, after which DC had to get A ready for school, fetch him to and from his grandparents' place, bathe him, gave him his night feed and finally, go to bed together. In the weekends, DC had to attend classes with A. Now you see why!
I was sad when A pushed me away and wanted only his daddy to carry him. Wasn't I the one he specifically asked for before these 6 months, before I went delivery and before his baby sister was born? When I wanted to carry him, he would tell me to carry his mei mei... I actually can't blame him for he was led into thinking that my job is to take care for his mei mei as he always see me carrying her and caring for her. And, he's always with his father...
While it is good that DC can help to take care of one, and I separately take care of the other, it also pose a potential problem. What would happen when DC is not around? I'm about to face such a situation soon! I'm quite fearful actually and didn't want to think about the separation anxiety. I think I'll just react according to situation when the day comes!

Things that A did while I was napping
I was very tired since yesterday. Thanks to B, she gave me chances (twice) to rest and recharge myself today! :)
While B and I were taking our second nap, DC came back with A who had just woke up from his nap in the car. In my drowsy state, I saw A very busily running all around and I vaguely remembered he came into the room several times to call me (or tell me he's doing something?), close my door, pass me my hairband and ask me to tie my hair up, put his sister's skirt on my bed (I thought that was his shorts and he told me it was his sister's), pass me a pack of wet wipes. He could have done more than what I remembered while I was sleeping... here's one that I totally had no idea of:
He posted a status update on my facebook!
I blinked when I saw what my wall, not believing what I saw. I do not think that he knows what he did. Fortunately, the message that he put up was harmless - it was made up of some of his favorite alphabets. I find it quite cute actually that the nearby location was captured.
Haha, this was not the first time he meddled with my iphone. He managed to call out a few times and I had to explain to the call receivers! There was once (recently) that he video-called someone else that I do not know. And that person smsed, what's-apped me umpteen times to find out who I was! Despite this, I'm not really against him playing with my iphone. It's a nice kids toy. I just have to make sure that I am around when he does that, to avoid similar things from happening. :P

Jacob Ballas Once Again
Since we were around the area (at Hatched), we decided to head towards the Jacob Ballas children's garden with A and B.
A was totally uninterested in the water play at all. He, as usual, had fun with the maze and the playground. He kept asking for the slide when we left the playground!
A friend of ours came to visit us at the garden. She brought along his son Caleb too. We walked around the park together and I was very surprised that A was not afraid of and had no problem balancing on the suspension bridge!
The sky started to get dark and so we decided to call it a day. Here's a group picture of all of us.

Hidden Messages
I did this invitation card recently for A's 3rd birthday celebration... and hid a secret message in the image! Can you find the hidden message?
If you noticed, at the right corner of the image was a square shaped code. This, is the QR code or the Quick Response code. The QR code originates from Japan and is commonly found in magazines, posters, web pages, T-shirts and anywhere in Japan.
QR codes can contain information such as url links, geo coordinates, and text and may bring you to watch a video, view a slideshow, find a location, access a business info, URL which directs you to an online discussion or give coupon for use in a local outlet. :) The possibilities are endless!
I'm quite fascinated by this technology and being the inquisitive woman that I am, I feel like going around to hunt down every QR codes in sight!
Oh yes, the most important question: How do you encode the message?
Simple. If you are holding a smartphone, just go to the app store (or equivalent) and look for the keyword QR scanner or reader. There are quite a few of them. You could download a few to try them out. The contents would be deciphered in no time!
You're welcome to try reading the message in the above image! :)

Preparing for A's 3rd Birthday: Updates
Ok, when I said that the venue was fixed in my earlier post, I meant that we already sourced for a venue which met our requirements and had tentatively booked it. It was a "tentative booking" and not a "confirmed booking", not yet. We actually happily slacked for many weeks and only did the final step to get the procedures done on this Monday. So, now the venue was finally confirmed!
Too much time was spent on the venue but the venue (and its restrictions) actually helped us determine quite the following things quite easily:
1. The date of the event - There was only one date where the venue was available, so we took that day.
2. The caterer - We could only choose from a list of selected caterers. Though there were many choices, there were none that caught our eye except for one whose sister company is the one we wanted all along. Fortunately, the caterer agreed to serve us with their sister company's menu.
3. The time of the event - Now, this was not good for they had only two fixed slots. We opted to pay additional to start the party 2 hours earlier.
4. The decoration - Minimal decorations could be done in the hall. We were left with very limited choices of decorations. I'm currently working on it. I've found two sources and is waiting for the price of one to come in so that I could compare between the two.
5. The type of activities that could be done within the premises were also very restricted. We managed to negotiate with them on something that fits our theme. DC is working on this now. He's found a few suppliers and is deciding on which one to take.
The theme has long been decided. So, I worked along the theme and created an invitation card to send out to our guests. And, the card is done yesterday and okayed by DC today! :)
Next step would be to send out the invites, order a cake, and start buying favors for the guests. And, we will also get another set of favors for the celebration at A's childcare centre! 2.5 weeks more! Busy Busy!
The To do list:
1. Decide on a theme.
2. Decide on the date and time of event.
3. Source for posible venues.
4. Decide on a venue.
5. Compile guests list.
6. Create invitation card.
7. Send out invites.
8. Confirm attendance.
9. Decide on activities for the kids.
10. Buy/make decorations.
11. Order birthday cake.
12. Buy party favors.
13. Shop for Birthday suit.
14. Prepare birthday present.
15. Send reminders a few days before.

The Amazing Spider-Man
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans
Director: Marc Webb
Genre:Action/ Thriller
Language: English
Release Date:29 June 2012
Running Time:136 minutes
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents disappearance leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his fathers former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
==================================================================================
Although on the same topic, the story and approach are different from the previous spiderman movie. I love how the movie was filmed. The scenes and pictures were nice! Of course, there were lots of actions. We watched the digital version. I wondered if the 3D movie would be much more exciting? I actually prefer this spiderman more to the other one.
Last thing. There's more after the credits.

B's pneumoccocal jab
B got her pneumoccocal jab today.
Good thing there wasn't any people at the clinic today, we didn't have to wait to go in.
As usual, B cried out loud (really loud and non-stop). Shaking toy didn't work on her like it did on her brother! Strangely, the moment I picked her up, she stopped crying.
After her jab, we brought her to her nanny's and we were off to complete the rest of our to-do list for today!
[Edited 06 Jul 2012: B got fever 37.9ºC on the first night and recovered the next day. :) ]

Tummy Troubles
B's tummy acted up again! This time it's constipation.
We introduced her to stage 2 milk and after two days of the fm, I find her always crying trying to push her poo out! Such poor thing! She really cried out loud and tears rolled down! It pained my heart to see her in such pain! This pushing and crying carried out for 2 days over 5 times before she finally could pass her motion! The stools were all hard and bloody. When she moved her bowels, I could see the relief on her face! We, including A, are all very happy for her too!
I read up a little on this topic of constipation. To get things moving for a constipated infant, you could try the following:
- change the baby's feeding pattern e.g. if you began new foods, return to the looser-stool diet
- engage in some physical exercises. Exercise improves digestion and speeds the passage of food through the intestines.
- for bottlefed baby, give your formula-fed baby an extra bottle of water a day
- gently massage and rub baby's tummy in a clockwise direction. Place your hands at baby's naval and massage in a circular motion, moving your hand(s) out and away from the center of baby's belly.
- Place baby on the back and lightly hold the legs in a half-bent position. Gently begin to move the legs as if riding a bicycle. This may also help to relieve a baby who is gassy.
- give baby a warm bath
- try giving 1-2 ounces of diluted fruit juice such as grape, prune or apple-prune twice daily
- adding more fiber to the diet by trying strained foods such as: apricots, pears, prunes, peas, peaches, spinach, plums. Barley or oatmeal cereals or most vegetables are preferred
- avoid baby foods such as rice cereal, applesauce and bananas and toast
- insert the glycerin suppository, wiggle it a bit, which stimulates the tense rectal muscles to relax and eases the passage of the hard stools
[Edited on 5 Jul 2012: I always thought that the constipation was due to the stage 2 formula but later on, I had a revelation that it was due to the increased amount of milk I gave her. The more than double milk intake, I almost confirmed, was the very cause of the constipation!]

This is my 2nd Attempt at making a flower headband for B.
This time, I used a red 50% silk and 50% viscose yarn. The end product looked a little different from the last time maybe because of the material used. But, it came out nice too. I'm satisfied with the result!
Now, B doesn't have a lot of red tops or dresses to match with this headband... Time to shop for one! :P

Buffet Town
My family went to Buffet Town for a sumptuous lunch, courtesy of me. :) It was my bonus treat.
There was a huge variety of food and they were tasty! For the amount we spent, it was value for money and suitable for big group gathering!
Everyone was happy about the food there.
A playing with marshmallow. He loves it!
Happy B! She was such a darling, quietly lying on her stroller throughout.
The 3 of us:
Look at the "stamp" they use. It's invisible by sight, only under the UV light. Amazing!
