A good 10 years

No, not married 10 yrs but known each other for 10 years. Although I still have much to improve, we still quarrel but I'm glad we stuck to each other all these yrs. There's so much we've been through together. So this year, we thought we should do something out of the mundane to mark it.

So I thought I buy CP a clutch bag.

So she got me a wallet belatedly ... and secretly ... I nearly fainted from it. The saving grace is CP knew exactly what I want in a wallet.

So morning we went to the tree top. It was really fun sweating it out and taking photos along the way, except for the heavy downpour which dampened my spirits somewhat.

After we made it back, we gorged ourselves full at Adam Road food center with mutton soup and prawn noodles!

Then it's to the Singapore Flyer.

The Grand Prix Pit-Stop

The work-in-progress Integrated Resort and casino.

Dinner time at Gunther's!
We first came across it when we had lunch at Garibaldi next door. Soon after, we saw that it had quite a good review in the Straits Times. Well, why not? So there we were.

We had a half bottle 2005 Chianti Classico Berardenga, Fattoria di Felsina, Toscana for wine.

Teaser - no idea what it it. Gone in a mouthful.

Cold angel hair pasta, Oscietra caviar - A cold dish. The pasta tasted wonderful with the truffle oil. This cost $60 if ordered ala-carte.

Fine tart of tomato confit, grilled smoked bacon, frizee salad - I am not a fan of tomato but this was good. Very good complement to the bacon, with a dash of egg yolk before the tomato confit.

Consommé of pigeon, warm egg yolk, champignon de paris - First time I had clear soup in fine dining. A nice change from the creamy soups. There are bits of semi-boiled egg yolk thrown into the soup, which we found a pleasant suprise. Taste is just right, not too salty or bland.

The main dish - Cocotte of chicken in the hay. This is simply fantastic. A whole chicken "dry-steamed" in a clear glass pot full of some herbs of sort. Couldn't make out what that was.

The chicken was then divided and served in two different ways.

The first was served as it was. Mama mia! This must be the best steamed chicken I had ever tasted! The meat has fully absorbed the frangrance from whatever herbs in the glass pot and yet so very tender! This is definitely not your normal steamed chicken.

The 2nd serving was done roasted. Slightly cripsy on the outside but still fantastically tender. If not for the price, I would like to go back another time!

Orange Souffle

Chocolate Souffle

So that sums it up for the day. I would love to continue enjoy life and good food with my lovely CP! May God bless us and let each year be better than the last!

Off to the tree top

We finally made the effort to pay a visit to the HSBC Tree Top at Macritchie Reservoir. We were 3 hours late though. We were supposed to reach the start pint at 8 a.m. ... well, we reached at 11 a.m. By this time, we could see dark clouds rolling in the far sky. Let's hope it doesn't rain.

The carpark was quite easy to find, just off the junction of Sin Ming and Thomson Road. And so here we were, with all our gear.

Start of Trail

Shortly into the trail ...
081009-015

081009-020

About 1/4 into the trail ... saw some dark clouds in the distant sky ... well, let's concentrate on the scenery.
081009-021 081009-022

It's a pain stalking the little creatures, so I turned to flowers.
081009-023 081009-027 081009-028

Full of rocky paths.

Then I saw this spider. This little bugger is extremely difficult to focus on ... before I knew it, it jumped onto my lens ...
081009-030

You can see how small this little bugger is. Just a tiny spot on the grass blade in the center.

Finally, only a bit more to the tree-top, about 1 km to be exact.
081009-033
The short cut is to take the road up instead of the trail down but we only found out on the way back.

Tree-top reached. The rain beckoned ...
081009-041

We hurried across.
081009-042

Over the forest, we felt the raindrops.
081009-043 081009-044

We crossed the bridge and the rain was upon us. Both of us huddled under a small umbrella ... romantic ... ? I'm not too sure though, hehe. Stuck across the bridge with a long way back to the ranger station and no shelter in sight ... what luck.

Well, the rain stopped soon enough and it's a long trek back. Tired out but what an experience! What a joy it is to see the block of condominium in the distance.

Just let me say

Just let me say how much I love you,
With all my heart I long for you,
Just let me live in the shadow of your beauty,
Let me see you face to face,
Just let me hear your finest whispers,
As you gently call my name,
Oh I am caught in the passion of knowing,
This endless love of knowing you,
Just let me say how much I love you,
Oh my darling, my wife and friend.

Oktoberfest

Yes, this time round we thought of trying our the German beer. So we found our way to Paulaner Brauhaus. Ordered the big big 1.0L mug to share. Sausages and some chips to go along. This also marked the start of our own 10-yr celebration :)

Ok, I can't say I quite like beer ... guess I will never come around to it.

HK or JP? Nov, Jan or Mar?

We were thinking hard about where to go for our next getaway and were bothered by the options we have!

Should we:
Go Hong Kong in Nov, then to Osaka in Jan? or
Forget about Hong Kong and go Osaka in Jan? or
Go Hong Kong in Nov, then to Japan in Mar? or
Skip Hong Kong and go Osaka in Jan and other parts of Japan in Mar? or
Go Hong Kong in Nov, Osaka in Jan and Japan in Mar???

Then, there is also a Malaysia trip in the picture! The destination has not been decided but it has been confirmed that the company trip will be in Nov. So, we have to consider this if we are going Hong Kong:

Should we go after the Malaysia trip? or
Should we forgo the Malaysia trip and go Hong Kong on the same week???

We have been discussing for days and still could not reach a decision. Hopefully things will be clearer next week... :)

Eagle Eye

Rating: PG
Genre: Action Violence
Language: English with chinese subtitles
Director: D.J. Caruso
Main Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thornton
Runtime: 120mins

“Eagle Eye” is a race-against-time thriller starring Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thornton. Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations – using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening – and more importantly, why.

We just came back from the show. It was full of actions and question marks in the first one hour, then in the next hour you will find the pieces fix together like jigsaw puzzles... I cannot imagine what chaos it would bring to the world to have a computer system like the one in the show implemented! Position, voice tracking through handphones, video and other technology devices... there's no self privacy at all! Maybe the US or even Singapore already have an equivalent survelliance system in place? Well, let's just hope it won't end up in an unmanageable situation and become defiant and out of control one day...

Oh, there's mention of Singapore! Do watch out for it if you happen to catch the show.

Huh? It Ended?

Arts Central telecasted the last episode of D'Grayman today! It really caught both of us off-guarded. The ending was rather abrupt. We were always eargerly waiting for Fri to come so that we could watch the next episode and were getting so very excited about the increasingly challenging battles and now this... How could the producers stop the production after the Excorists won the victory against the level 4 Akuma??

DC did a search on the Internet and found out that the manga is still ongoing and apparently the anime reached a standstill cos the manga story has not advanced very much from the last episode shown today. Since the anime follows very closely to the manga, it was difficult for the the producers to carry on without the story.

"How is Allen Walker and Mana related to the Ancient Family?", "Who will survive the final battle against the Earl?" "Who's the heart - Lena Lee or Alan Walker?" I still these questions unanswered... I hope there will be a next one soon...

Having fun on course this week

It's been quite a long time since I last went for a course that is more than a day. This week was a short week (for me) and it went past rather quickly... I was on course on Mon and Tue. Wed was Hari Raya Puasa, a public holiday. Thu today, I was on course again. Now that it's time to get back to work, I'm starting to miss the workshop days which were of interesting lecturer, colourful writing notes, innovative teaching methods (see pics above: funnel, sunflower, waste and other 3D materials pasted on the wall), fun activities and enjoyable morning and tea breaks! I guess this would probably be the first time I'm having the blues on a Friday huh?!
