Accident Prone

Nearly tripped over an uneven floor mat during lunch yesterday at Suntec. My little left toe was hurt n I'm limping to work today but I'm blessed to have my bro, sis and dad taking turns to drive me home these two days.

Funny thing is when I told and showed my mum and colleagues my foot, they couldn't identify the affected area -- my little toe. That's because both my feet was so swollen that anywhere could be a potential pain area, hehe! :P

This is an accident prone period esp. when the tummy is so big that the feet can't be seen... everyone has been very concerned and cautioned me to be extra careful when I walked, not to go to crowded places and try not to take public bus if possible, etc...

I truly hope that there will be not be a third time!

Life's a Cruise ... Boat Actually

Went to a yacht this evening for a BBQ gathering with cousins and relatives. The venue was at 0ne Degree 15 Marina over at Sentosa. Being the first time on a yacht, I do think it was quite fun. Nice environment too, laidback and idyllic, especially when it's about sunset. Thanks to Melvyn and Cousin Janie for organising this gathering! Happy Birthday to Janie too!

The taking of Pelham 123

The taking of Phelham 123

Genre:Thriller
Language: English
Release Date:11 June 2009
Running Time:105 minutes

New York City subway dispatcher Walter Garber's (Denzel Washington) ordinary day is thrown into chaos by an audacious crime: the hijacking of a subway train. Ryder (John Travolta), a criminal mastermind and leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train's passengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour.

As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages. But there's one riddle Garber can't solve: even if the thieves get the money, how can they possibly escape?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quite an exciting show. Denzel Washington and John Travolta protrayed their roles very well, this film is worth the watch. At the end of the movie, there's still a mystery yet to be solved - Did Garber really take the bribe? DC thought he did but I think otherwise... Hmm..
I like this beer ad
Seen the latest Heineken Commercial on tv? I like it! :)
Carlsberg also has some really nice ones.
And,
The impressionable one from Tiger Beer, our locally brewed beer, uses Jessica Alba in the commercial.
I'm not a beer lover, not sure which brand tastes good, better or best but I know the commercials are always worth watching! :)
First Fall during Pregnancy
Slipped and fell on wet floor at Regent Hotel today - my first fall in the past 8 months! Luckily I did not land flat on my tummy but rather, on my knees. Now my right knee is hurting (likely bruised tomorrow) but luckily baby A is unharmed.
I must have scared my two male colleagues who were with me then, haha... One of them had suggested to take that route (not the usual one) cos the road is more spacious and less dangerous but who knows I will slip on a wet smooth ground? Why I so clumsy?
DC was quite mad at me when he heard the news and demanded that I should have been more careful. He guessed that I had worn that pair of worn out shoes out... I'm so guilty that I took time off to see my gynae to assure him that the bb is ok.
Think he has a point there about the shoes. Come to think of it, I almost slipped at Ma Maison months ago because of shoe issue (I felt that the floor was slippery but DC did not feel so and I was wearing a flat shoe with smooth sole). This weekend, I'm getting him to go shoe shopping with me for non-slip shoes! :)
Father's Day - 设想"粥"到
Bought Dad and family to this taiwanese porridge restaurant at Toa Payoh Park for dinner for our post father's day celebration.
I'm so glad Dad likes the food there... In fact, he was no stranger to the restaurant, he ever patronized the restaurant years ago with his friends, before all of us his children were born. That was during his younger days and he couldn't help but to happily tell us stories about his fond memories with his friends in the restaurant. He could even recall the number of bowls of porridge he could finish back then.
Home-cook styled dishes and free flow of porridge seems to win the favor of my dad, this is the first time we see him eat so much at the dinner table... I think this will not be the last time we be there. ;D
DC and his bro also quite 设想周到 for they sponsored the parents a night's hotel stay at Rasa Sentosa on Friday and DC & me accompanied them to dinner at Imperial Treasure Restaurant the day before, on Thurs.
Blessing in Disguise: Movie Vouchers
Due to the spread of the H1N1 virus, my company decided to cancel the movie event on 24 Jun 09. The good news is: Those who have ordered the tickets for the event gets to keep the same number of movie vouchers for the same price. The movie vouchers can be used on PH, eve of PH, Sat and Sun on any movies (not limited to Transformers 2 that we have signed up for) and expire end Dec 2010! This is truly a blessing in disguise! :)
This is a great deal and I got 9 ticket vouchers in return for only $27! If I had seen this coming, I should have ordered more tickets to keep! :P
I Love Shredding, She loves Keeping
It's amazing how our home managed to accummulate stuff, things which we have even forgotten about and would never have bothered about.
I shredded lots of stuff today, CP was screaming "Noooo .... !!!". Hehe, too bad. We all know we need to make space for our baby.
Week 32 Check up
Doc said that I look more prosperous-looking today! This time I guess I have to admit that this is true... have not been controlling my diet very much these weeks, have already put on 12 kg to date!
Scan results was satisfactory: Baby A is now 1.7kg and his head is already down. Strangely, how come I couldn't feel him turning? Could he have did it during my sleep? Hmm... anyways, this is good news as I hope to have a natural delivery. One disturbing news though is that my water level is on the borderline but it's still within acceptable range. I'm told to monitor A's movements daily and to report to him if there's any abnormalities. *Stress* but DC and I have already prayed to God for the safety of the baby. He will be protected! :)
Have confirmed on the hospital to deliver A. Doc says there's no need to book the room, don't know if this is true - what if there's no room at the time of delivery room? But depending on the seriousness of H1N1 virus outbreak, he may be limited to only one hospital, so I think there's no hurry to book the room...
I can't wait for the next visit 3 weeks later!
Marriage Workshop
We attended this complimentary marriage workshop organized by the hospital today. The speakers were a husband and wife pair - social worker and psychiatrist, quite a pair of interesting couple with different personalities... husband soft-spoken and kindred looking, wife sharp-voiced and stern looking.
Only expect it to be a short seminar where we can sit through but it turned out to be a workshop. The men sat in a circle of chairs and the wives sat in another circle where we shared about our expectations of the other half. It seems that the men didn't have much expectations of the wives (mostly very positive) but, the wives have lots to complain about! :P Hehe, can't blame us... it's the avenue to let the men know how we feel and what we expect from them during the pregnancy and beyond.
At the end of this workshop, we took home a few pointers and I'm sure we will continue to build on the (already strong?) foundation for our marriage! Hearing so much from the other wives and knowing my expectations of him, hopefully DC will work on and realise them! :)
Getting to know the IP Law on the Internet
Was sent to this course by my boss - my first law course! :)
It was conducted by a lawyer lecturer in the SMU school campus, I felt as if I was back to my school days attending tutorial class. The course was very interactive. A very experienced lawyer, he used illustrations of real life court cases to help us understand the topic better. Some of the examples he quoted were interesting e.g. the Armani vs A R Mani and the MacDonald vs McCurry cases. Of course, I did not waste the chance to ask him for advise regarding some work-related questions, hehe.
One very good reason why I love the course is that it's really very value for money esp. the yummy food served for morning break, lunch and afternoon break! :)
Some of the interesting takeaways from the course (Did you know?):
1. The photographer has the right to publish your photos on his website for example as he is the creator of the materials.
2. It is ok to take pictures of someone you don't know on the roads, you do not need approval for it unlike in France.
3. Giving credits doesn't help to reduce damages for copyright infringement. Use only images that are allowable on your blogs and presentation slides.
4. Registration of a trademark doesn't guarantee that you'll be protected as law is territorial, so is goodwill.
5. Not all things are copyrighted. Ideas and information are not!
6. Browsing, caching and searching is allowable by Singapore.
7. Singapore allows parallel importing, not all countries allow.
8. Hyperlinking and deep linking is allowable.
9. There's no requirement for (C), no registration is needed.
10. An infringement can itself be a copyrighted work; so too an identical, independent work
Top Ten Copyright Myths (extracted from the notes):
1. If I attribute the material to the author, there is no infringement.
2. If its on the Internet, it's free for all.
3. If I paraphrase/parody, it's OK.
4. If I take just a little, it's OK.
5. Once I own the work, I can do anything with it.
6. Any non-profit, non-commercial use is permissible.
7. If it's just for me, it's OK.
8. If I use it for teaching, it's OK.
9. I didn't do it.
10. Freeware is free for all.
Today's a mess
Walked too much and eat too little today... Guess it's the pre-natal mood swings at work, I hate today!
Everything planned didn't really work out: Lunch with in-laws had to be cancelled and I went shopping on my own but didn't manage to buy the things I wanted to get at Robinsons. (Arghh! Today's the last day of their free 0% GST sale!)
It didn't help that I had to walk long distance from Suntec to Millenia Walk, then back to Suntec and to Raffles Shopping Centre through the long City Link mall. Legs were breaking and stomach was hungry when I reached home but there was nothing for me to eat! :(
Antenatal Class - 6th Lesson
6 weeks gone so fast, today's lesson was the last! It was very heavy and loaded with important information - all on baby care, perhaps the most important lesson so far.
We both felt that it was a little too rush as there was too much to cover, they should be have split it into two lessons. The demo on baby bathing and massage was too short and brief. Why no hands on?
There is a complimentary class next week - wonder if that would be helpful?
Maternity Photo Shoot
We decided to have another go at a studio photo shoot ourselves. I discovered I have forgotten most of what I've learnt. That's what happen with not enough practice.
Anyway, it's still a fun-filled session. We have the privacy of the studio and we get to keep all the shots!
Shopping for Baby stuff at the Expo Sale
We went Expo for the Motherhood Fair (Hall 6) and the John Little Mega Sale (Hall 4) yesterday.
Bought quite a number of the big ticket items this weekend. :)
What's left are just one big item and the rest are smaller items to get before Baby A arrives, Gambatene!
We have also chosen the cord blood banking. It looked like a good deal to sign up at the fair, so we didn't even want to think twice. :)
One interesting thing to note at the fair: When asked who our gynae is, I just have to tell them which hospital I'm delivering at and the doctor's surname and they all knew who he was! Wow, is this industry so small or is he that well-known? Hmm...
Antenatal Class - 5th Lesson
Today's lesson was on breastfeeding. It's quite a heavy but enriching session. The instructor Sister Kang was a very experienced nurse but she talks very fast... had a little difficulty taking down notes and catching up. She answered a lot of the questions I have in my head regarding breastfeeding and we learnt about the different ways of holding the baby (using a dummy doll). She also showcased some of the different brands of breast pumps available in the market now, there were so many types of pumps, after the lesson, we were still lost at what to choose...
Chocolate Cravings
Time of the year to have some chocolate desserts again. What better than to go to Spageddies for simple, indulgent chocolate cake and brownies. The best thing is, it doesn't cost a bomb.
Worth mentioning is the Pepperoni Bread. Although stated as a starter, I think it's big enough to serve as a main. Preferably shared between 3 to 4 people.
Nice desserts:
