Time to wrap up 2011 and move on to a new year!
This year was really hectic for us, I hope the new year would be a more calm and relaxed one!
Jan 2011
I colored my hair for the first time after I gave birth to A.
We brought A to the zoo on my birthday and it was fun.
DC treated me to lunch at One Fullerton and gave me a LVoely shawl!
Feb 2011
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Conrad.
I got a LVoely sweet heart for Valentine's Day.
It was the CNY period - one of my favorite festivals! I did some handmade red packets to give out.
Mar 2011
My niece was born!
We made use of StandChart's 15% dining promotion and went a few restaurants to eat: Gunther's, Ah Hoi's Kitchen, Ma Maison and Rajah Inn.
Introduced teeth brushing to A and he loves it!
Apr 2011
This was a bad month:
I had a bad fall on the escalator with A.
MIL had an operation and was hospitalised. Both DC and I had to make alternate arrangements to look after A. It is during this time that I realised I was pregnant!
May 2011
We employed a domestic helper to help out with the household chores.
We'd received flowers from LV for our anniversary!
We celebrated our ROM anniversary at Black Angus with A.
We took part in our very first General election!
A can walk!
Jun 2011
We enrolled A to a full time childcare centre and was glad that he adjusted very well there.
DC took some studio photos of A.
Jul 2011
A turns 2 years old! We held a great celebration for him at the Traders Hotel.
We decided that it was time to bring A out to the great outdoors and started with the Marina Barrage .
Aug 2011
I became very obsessed with watching dramas on my phone.
We brought A to the Underwater world and MacRitchie Reservoir.
We voted for our first presidential election.
We celebrated National Day at the Fairmont and A watched the fireworks for the first time.
Sep 2011
We took A for a heart check and was happy that he was completely fine! Amen!
Oct 2011
We celebrated FIL's birthday at Peach Garden.
We decided to own a car even though it means a 6 months' wait.
We stayed at Conrad and celebrated Children's Day and our 13th dating anniversary there.
Nov 2011
We stayed at the Sentosa Resort and saw the exotic peacocks!
Nov was DC's birthday month and we pigged out at a few places: Majestic Restaurant, Au Jardin and Bistro Du Vin.
We celebrated my mum's birthday.
We took A to the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden and he loved it there.
Dec 2011
We had free lunch at Grand Hyatt and high tea at the Equinox.
We had fun at the annual christmas party and DC was one of the organizing committee.
We had a BBQ christmas celebration in a bungalow and had great time even though it was raining cats and dogs.
The biggest thing that happened in Dec is this: Baby B was born! We are now a family of four. :)
Happy New Year ahead, everyone!

Family of Four
First family portrait of us four! :)
A's first sight of his 妹妹 and we're surprised he could pronounced the word 妹妹 so well. I claimed the credit: I always point to him at my stomach and tell him that's 妹妹! :P

B is 1 week old
How fast! B's already 1 week old!
The first 4 days were spent at the hospital. I only see her every 3 hourly and she seldom opens her eyes. She was always sleeping, hehe...
She could latch on very well, much to our delight! The lactation consultant gave her a perfect score (10/10) for that! :)
However, since she was born small (2.49kg) and milk has yet to come in then, I requested the nurses at the nursery to supplement her with formula milk after every feed. By the time of discharge, she was around 2.3kg (I was told that it was normal that babies lose weight).
For the next 3 days at home, we alternate between bm, ebm and fm to feed her. She visited the pediatrician yesterday and she exceeded her birth weight. Now 2.52kg! :)
She was a little jaundiced but there was no cause for concern and she needn't be hospitalized or photo-lighted. :) We also noticed there are some peeling of the skin especially on the wrists, hands, ankles, feet, stomach and forehead area. The confinement lady says this is normal for babies (and all along I thought that time A peeled because the amniotic fluid was low and that made him very dry!!)

Car Wash
The boot was rather dirty, with lots of sand. I decided that it would need a vacuum. So on a cloudy morning, we went to the nearby SPC station for just that.
After the external wash, it was time for the cleaning of the inside. I know that the inside of a car could contain more contaminants than the exhaust from the roads!
Aaron had a running nose and the medication made him drowsy ... There he was, lying lazily on CP.
In any case, after this day, Aaron kept wiping his toy car at home!

B's Checkup At the PD's
We (DC, our confinement lady and me) took B to her checkup today at 10:30am after DC sent A to his grandparent's house (he's going back to his childcare centre after 2 weeks of absence due to his cough). We got a shock when we arrived at the clinic! The clinic was so busy and packed with sick children!
Our PD Dr YY Yip was on leave this week and so we saw the relief PD, Dr William Yip. Fortunately, we needn't have to wait for very long for our turn (newborn privilege). B put on (now 2.52kg) and surpassed her birth weight of 2.49kg (Yay!). The PD was happy about it but noticed that she was yellowish and told us to take blood test.
We went to the 3rd floor for the blood test and fed the little hungry one before we headed down to the clinic to wait for the test results. We waited for a while. B's results showed that she had slight jaundice (level 11) but it was ok, she needn't stay in or go under photo light. The jaundice should go away in 1-2 weeks time. The PD assured us that it's mild and during this period, it is unlikely that the level will pass the threshold which is 15. :) All we need to do is to feed her regularly and when asked how much is enough, the PD gave me a formula: 150ml per kg per day (which is what she's getting - enough.).
We have to go back in 2 weeks' time for follow up but I wonder if we want to go back to this clinic again? It's really very packed!

I ended the lease for the Civic on the 15th. Took over the lease of another colleague that very night. It was a red Hyundai Matrix this time and at a monthly rental of $1070. The initial drive was quite disorienting. The driver's side mirror was magnified, which made the vehicles looked much nearer than they actually were.
After about a week with it, I finally almost gotten the hang of it. Parking still took about 2 tries but it was way better than initially. Mileage is about the same as the Ford, 8km/L.
This should be the last vehicle to stay with us till the VW Touran arrives in April 2012.

A is 29 months old
There were a lot of activities going on the past month! Of course, it's the festive season! :)
We brought him to The Sentosa Resort. It's where he first saw and learnt about a peacock. Next, we went for high tea at the Equinox. Then, we went for free lunch at the Grand Hyatt.
And, there were the X'mas celebrations:
1. X'mas Party at Botanic Gardens - Where he was happy, energetic and turned tired and cranky...
2. X'mas BBQ at Holiday Bungalow - Where he played Santa Claus to help give out presents (he loves this job!) and celebrated his 姨姨's birthday (he loves blowing candles).
At home, he helped Daddy set up the X'mas tree with his choo choo train.
However, this rainy season also make him sick for two whole weeks (or was it three?)! He first had cough, then runny nose and then cough again with phlegm! He had to be on numerous medication and nebuliser! In between, we took him to the doctors 4 times and he had his second Hep A jab.
We brought A to car wash for a few times and had him sit on the driver's seat once (while waiting for the carwash). Since then, he was very interested in cars. He even requested to play with his big electronic yellow car and couldn't keep his hands off the steering wheels! He even mimicked the action of car wash, wiping the car sparklingly clean but with saliva! We were amazed and shocked by his action!
Needless to say, his x'mas presents were all about cars and vehicles! :)
Besides cars, he has this newfound interest in snapping photos using iPhone! He loves to activate the camera and took lots of photos - some blurry but there were some clear self-portraits!
He says "Tinkle Tinkle Little Star", "work work", "肉肉", "stool", "school", "towel", "owl", "bar", "ball", "打打“, "衣服" (in fact a long time ago, since I forgot which month I'll just slot this word here :P) and FIL says he says "A is for Apple, B is for Bird"! He knows his colours. When I asked him to bring me a particular color he could do it. However, whenever I ask him what's the colour, his reply would always be "Blue"!
Motor development wise, he could squat and stand up all by his own and he could slide down a slide all by himself! I'm awed by this. Maybe I'm too protective of him to let him try to go down a slide by his own. My baby has proven me wrong, I feel my baby has grown up!
He has a new sister this month and mummy was not with him for 4days/3 nights. I hope that has not made him feel insecure! I heard he has been searching for Mummy for 2 days but Daddy has done well bonding with him, fetching him to see mummy and sister and coaxing him to sleep! Good job, Daddy! :)

Merry X'mas 2011
The inspiration came from the santa claus that was folded by a colleague from another department (her husband actually) for the upcoming company x'mas party. I thought that was cute (although a few of my colleagues thought it was a frog probably because she used green, blue and other colours instead of red paper) and decided to make a tag out of it.
Then, I found a guide for the x'mas tree and an idea struck. I decided to make a card instead, out of a doll house. One with A in a warm room with fireplace,
a paper x'mas tree and,
a paper santa claus!
I actually wanted to place the props in a light box, apply lighting and take a picture with DC's DSLR. Then, I decided just do an instant snap with my new iPhone 4S. :P
The card was printed out and tagged to the gifts, and we're all ready for the gift exchange! :)
Merry X'mas 2011 to all! :)

We're home for Christmas!
It's the Christmas eve and both Baby and Mummy were discharged from the hospital today... Just in time for Christmas! :)
As I was pushed into the room right after the op and only allowed to get off the bed on Fri noon, I don't have any idea where outside of the room looked like and where the lift and nursery are! DC brought A along and it was A who led me to the nursery to see his 妹妹! I got some milk samples for B and requested that the nurses feed her before we leave the room. DC did the birth registration and discharge procedures.
We left right after she was fed and changed. It was strange to leave just like that, with no nurses bidding us goodbye and leading us to the lift lobby. I remembered the nurses at Mt A were very friendly and sent us right to the doorstep! Probably only if we opt to take Gleneagles limousine service back home?
Anyway, it's great to be home! This silent night is going to be not so silent! :P We gave taxi uncle's method a try, hope it works!

Celebratory Dinner and Cocktail Party at the Hospital
A celebratory dinner for two and a cocktail party for six.
We like the idea but the venue sounds too weird! Anyway, that's what the hospital offers to us when we opted for the deluxe-superior room package. So, we arranged for the dinner and party to be held on the same day - 23 Dec 2011, the day before I was discharged. :)
DC's sirloin and my cod fish set.
Cocktail Party Spread. Both sides' families were invited.

Baby Rebecca - Our Perfect Christmas Gift
Meet Baby Rebecca (or Baby B), our newborn daughter!
She arrived on 21 Dec 2011 at 10:55 hrs weighing 2.49 kg. We were hoping that she would hit over 2.5 kg mark, which was the estimated weight but 2.49 kg is good too! :) God bless! All tests done on her were normal and she's a natural at drinking milk! Amen!

The Arrival of our Daughter
Our daughter was born today morning, Wed 21 Dec 2011 as scheduled.
Here's a detailed account of the birth process:
7:20am - Left home. A was still asleep at home when we left! I was hoping to say bye to him! :( I had to fast and not have food after midnight (4am actually).
7:40am - Arrived hospital and did the admission at the counter.
8:00am - Brought to the labour ward as there were no single rooms available. We asked for deluxe-superior room but it was also not available then. We had to wait for after lunch when the rooms were vacated. At the labour ward, they did the procedural questionnaire and got me to pee and poo and dress in the gown. The anesthetist came by to explain the procedures too. We stayed in the ward for almost 2 hours. It was freezing there! DC regretted not wearing jeans and a jacket there!
9:45am - Brought to the operating theatre.
10:00am - In the theatre, the anesthetist took my blood and OMG, she poked the wrong vessel and asked to find another suitable blood vessel on my left hand! And, she chose a thicker needle to poke, it hurts! From the conversation, the needle could be a much thinner one but the anesthetist prefer the thick one! The doc and nurses commented that my blood vessels has a lot of valves - first time I heard this. They were there searching for missing syringe before they started taking my blood! After the rework, I was all jittery and losing confidence! What about the big one (epidural) that was coming up?!! Fortunately, the administration of epidural was smooth. I felt numb right away unlike the last time! *relieved that the nightmare did not happen again!* After a while, the gynae came in and I saw DC. They did some pinch test on me and started the procedure. I continued to feel nothing, only some pressure and tugging. Held tightly to DC's hand and before long, we heard the little one's cries.
10:55am - Baby was born! This time I was alert unlike last time (where I was under any influence of gas). Her cries was loud and sharp! The anesthetist took a family photo for us.
After cleaning up the baby, she was brought to the nursery and DC went off with them while the gynae continued to stitch me up. I could tell that the gynae was carefully stitching me up - it felt slow. I was having a blocked nose then and couldn't really bear with it - I was having difficulty breathing and I hated the cloth screen that was placed so close to me! The anesthetist gave me something drowsy to make me sleep while he was doing his stitching. After I woke up, they were still not done yet and I could hear their conversations. The anesthetist was the most chatty doctor I've ever met!
11:40am - Finally, out of the operating theatre. They pushed me to a waiting area where I waited for my bedroom to be ready.
12:20pm - Still no bed available, they pushed me back to the labour ward. The gynae came by to check out on me.
2:15pm - Finally, they found me a superior room and I was brought to the cozy room!
4:30pm - We were waiting for our daughter from 2pm onwards and they finally brought her to us after 2.5 hours! I breastfed her and oh, she's latched on naturally! How nice!
6pm - I vomited twice after one cup of milo! This means no dinner and breakfast for me. I only started to have soft diet for lunch the next day.
So much for a day! I'm glad to see my baby B! :)
For the following few days, the gynae came visit twice a day and the PD once in the morning. I felt dizzy the next day and my gynae changed another painkiller for me. Other than the side effects of the drugs (slight shivering, vomiting and giddiness), I'm fine. This time round, the whole process is much smoother than last time round. I'm off the drip on Thursday afternoon and catheter on Friday noon. I was able to get down my bed with no problem on Friday noon! B was not jaundiced and I was all well. We were discharged on Saturday morning.
The whole experience was not so frightful after all!

Tomorrow is the day
In about another 12+ hrs, we will be seeing our newborn daughter!
Tomorrow is the day! This means we've to complete whatever things we need to do by today! The baby cot was delivered today and we've created a bank account for my maid. Morning, the clinic called to inform that the anesthetist could not take up the job and they had offered another anesthetist instead. What can I say? *No Choice!* :(
I was at home today and A seems to be especially sticky to me (he's sick and sleepy), refusing his grandpa to carry him at all! And, when I wanted to meet DC outside to get the last bit of B's stuffs (last minute shopping), A refused to let me leave his sight! I chose to stay home with him. Wanted to spend more time with him too...
Tomorrow is the day, I'm having slight blocked nose (from A) and now, I'm still left with my packing to do! *Panic Panic*!

A's on nebuliser
A has been coughing for almost 2 weeks and just when we thought he's getting better, his flu turned worse with runny nose!
We brought A to his PD and he told us to put him on nebuliser. The thought of putting him through the process made my heart ache!
Get well soon, my baby!
[Updated on 27 Dec 2011: A's off the nebuliser on 23 Dec and is well to go to his childcare school today!]

Chalet at Pasir Ris Holiday Bungalow
This year's X'mas party n sis' birthday celebration was held early at Pasir Ris Holiday Bungalow. It's probably the last outing before I deliver. The place was BIG!
The weather wasn't very ideal, it was raining cats and dogs. So, the men decided to bring the pit indoors instead.
We had our food, followed by cake cutting and finally the gift exchange...
A loves to blow candles. Look, he's making wish too! :P
The log cake this year is from Emicakes like last year. Too bad, A couldn't have it - He was coughing badly and lost his voice at the end of the day!
The presents:
Ah Boy is the host and A is the helper, giving out the presents to everyone. :)
What's celebration without a family photo? Here's us with our mini santa hats. (A refused to wear his!)

There is such a thing as free lunch
Indeed, I received a call from Hyatt 2 days before Saturday. "Mr Chew, Grand Hyatt would like to treat you to lunch." I was about to dismiss this as some timeshare ploy. However, after verification, it seemed that my booking for afternoon tea at 10 on Scotts had been overfilled, thus the F&B staff decided to offer my group and I a free lunch at the Straits Kitchen. Nice as I get to keep my $100 Hyatt vouchers for some other time.
On the day itself, we took a long 1 hr to reach the hotel as there was a massive traffic jam, mainly due to the breakdown of the MRT.
Food wasn't superb. It was local fare served there. Some of the dishes were either too salty or sweet. However, I particularly like the dessert station. There were a wide variety of local cakes and pastries.

Shopping whole afternoon
T'is the season to give! :) I went shopping alone for presents after lunch with DC today. I was on leave and DC went back to work.
I got most of the presents I wanted to get: For Nephew, Dad, Maid, Niece, Sisters... except for DC's! :P Total damage: $140
It was a long long time since I last spent so long hours shopping! Just love that feeling of hopping from one shop to another and choosing gifts! I hope the gifts are all appropriate! :)
On a side note, I enrolled in the new CapitaStar programme before shopping starts and at the end of my shopping, I created much trouble for the mall and CapitaStar staffs. Here's what happened:
My legs were aching after all the shopping and I had a good nap after that! A was at home with my ILs (He had his jab today) but fortunately, he didn't cry for me for long and allowed me to nap for almost 2 hours! :)

I took part in the mall lucky draw ($50 for 1 chance, I've got 2). However, I didn't know that winners had to produce original receipts to claim the prize and I dropped my original receipts in the CapitaStar box (required for lucky draw chances, $20 per chance). It was later that I found out about it and I actually went back to request the CapitaStar staff to retrieve my receipts, ha! The gal called the CapitaStar hotline to help me check and luckily, a guy came along and he had the key. I got my receipts back! :)
Then, I have another 3 receipts that made up more than $50, that I could use to join the draw too. However, as the rule was that each person could only take part once per day, I thought it was a waste and suggested for them to let me use DC's name for the draw. Out of goodwill, they agreed. However, I didn't have his NRIC with me. At first, they were not willing but after a while, they gave in. Hehe, to think I managed to get my way through! :P

A's Hep A Jab - 2nd Dose
And he didn't cry at all!
I'm so proud of him! :)
Actually we wanted to postpone his jab for the third time cos he had not recovered from his cough yet. We went to his PD in the morning to find that he was away on holiday and will only be back next Monday. Then we went to another clinic in the same building which was recommended by the PD's clinic. The doctor was away on standby case and we didn't know when she will be coming back. We ended up going back to this GP as we didn't want to wait and decided to give him the jab!
[Edited on 18 Dec 2011: We brought A back to the same GP to see A. He had runny nose. We're surprised to see that A still remembered that he took his jab in the clinic! He kept pointing to his arm, the one which was injected! Amazed by his memory!]

Taxi Uncle's Secret Identity
I took a cab from MBC to Orchard and met this very interesting Malay taxi driver.
He is now 58 years old and used to be with the Police Force. He was friendly and we talked mostly about my pregnancy.
Then, I thought I should also ask about him. So, I casually asked what he was doing when he was with the Police. He began his story telling...
He used to be an inspector with the ISD and PMO. Retired at age 45 and is on pension. He had 4 kids, all grown up. For the past 14 years, after he left the Police, he went to take his Bachelor degree, then Masters and worked for 3 years at Changi Village Hotel (or was it Changi Airport Hotel?). Now, he is pursuing his PHD! Wow!
He revealed that he became a taxi driver just because he wanted to write his thesis, which was on human behavior! It's through this job that he could interact with different passengers and understand them, to facilitate his thesis writing! Unbelievable! He told me that he wants to challenge his children who were masters holders in social science.
真的是难以置信!活到老学到老的人居然会给我遇上?佩服!真是卧虎藏龙!
Before I left, he impart these words of wisdom to me:
Hmm, sounds like my philosophy... I told him I must let DC know about this! :P

Blog Defacement
Ok, I'm not been blogging for quite a while and when I tried to go in today after some posts, I got a shock! This is what I saw:
The header that I've used for almost a year was out of alignment!
Who could have done it? What caused the defacement? Blogger down? My posts contains erroneous html tags? Is it only limited to Mac? I asked myself these questions and proceeded to investigate...
Problem was resolved now. It seems like Picassa did some stuffs (I suspect they implemented SSL) that caused the images to be auto-resized by half! What I did was to copy the new image URL and that did the trick to restore the page! :)
Quite a quick fix!
Now, business is back as usual! :)

Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars
I folded some stars out of paper for the origami christmas tree and A was interested in them.
He took them in his hands, bite them, tasted them, then slotted them in one of the boxes through the holes and gleefully demanded that I took the stars out for him!
My cheeky son!

1 week more!
1 week more to the D-day!
Two weeks ago, we've gotten a bag of clothes from a recently known friend (Thanks, Friend!). We've washed all the baby clothes and cloth nappies.
The little dresses are soooo cute! :)
Today, we've finally settle on an answer to the question we asked ourselves every month: "What does B sleep on?". (Thanks, Sis and Bro!) We are not done yet, there are still small little things that we need to prepare before B arrives next week! Oh, how could we put ourselves to such hasty preparation? I remembered being prepared 1 month before A was born! *Guilty!*
What else:
1. Pack Hospital Bag for Mummy and B
2. Choose and confirm a Name for B
3. Get Nappy Liners and Detergents
4. Herbs for Confinement
5. Search for Marriage Cert for registration of B's name

Look! A's Driving!
We went for a car wash today near my parent's place and there was a long long queue of cars waiting to go into the wash area.
After 10 minutes, A was fidgeting and couldn't sit still. So, we took him off his seat, and put him on Daddy's lap. Look what happened!
He had a fun time figuring out the controls. He even managed to switch on and off the engine!
We had a good laugh at him when he activated the wipers and got scared by them! Ha!

X'mas Party 2011
It was a retro night at the annual X'mas party at the Bontanic Gardens. As usual, there's this photo booth and we wasted no time in taking this family photo before DC gets busy with his duties for the night. (He was part of the organizing committee this year!) :)
Thank God I had a pokka dot dress that I could still fit in! Otherwise, it's difficult to find one that could fit a preggie! :P I just had to find matching pink earrings and a huge hairband.
We bought a singlet for A and matched it with a part of shorts that looked tailored and wore a short-sleeved shirt over him. That settles the look.
As for DC, he bought a short sleeved shirt last minute at G2000. Simple! :)
Every one gets a prize at the party. DC won himself a dining voucher at the Grand Hyatt! Still good although we were secretly hoping (so is every one else) for the grand prize - an iPad2!

A's coughing
A's been coughing since Sat and we brought him to our usual PD to check as the medicine given by the GP on Sun didn't seem to work.
PD said that that is likely an allergic cough and prescribed Bambec for him.
He's been missing school for the whole week and my ILs came over to look after him. We've also postponed his Hep A 2nd dose jab from 2 Dec to 9 Dec to 16 Dec because of the cough!
We hate coughs! It always made him puke!
Really hope A can get well soon!
[17 Dec 2011: We thought he's getting better but yesterday, he started having stuffy nose! Today, his cough worsen and he got runny nose! :( ]

X'mas Tree
This year, we set up the x'mas tree pretty early on 22 Nov!
And, it's all set up by DC alone, with his little helper's assistance of course! :)
A fascinated with the illuminated X'mas Tree:
Tpday, DC fixed the choo choo train we bought for him two years ago and he helped out too. :)
