Hokkaido Fair - Catch it while you can

It's the last chance to catch the Hokkaido Fair in Tampines. A pity it's quite far from my home; I'm rather tempted to try the bento set and ice-cream.

Internet blocked!

Wasted one hour fiddling around. Rebooted my Linksys router, the modem, PC but I still can't access the Internet.

Did some ping tests ... hey, pings worked. However, web access failed so does email access. Damn it, it must be the damn router then ...

So I connect my PC directly to the modem ... same thing!!! Wah, almost grabbed the phone to complain to Singnet.

Well, then I realised then my PC just installed a hotfix from Micro$oft. Well, CP had problems on her PC as well. She also installed the hotfix last night. Well, as a last resort, I decided to shut down my ZoneAlarm, a Windows personal firewall. Hey presto, the webpage loaded successfully.

So here's the culprit:

A search on the Internet shows hundreds of thousands of ZoneAlarm users affected. It's good to know I'm not alone and my router's fine.

Wednesday Party @ Bar None

Had a gathering cum farewell party at Bar None with my ex-colleagues.

It's a pity my camera phone failed me! The place is too dark, I tried to change the camera settings but it didn't seemed to work. Flash fired but picture appeared pitch black. Hmm, time to change a new phone?

Luckily, we have 2 other phone cameras that worked...

V for Victory!
Hey cameraman, why did u cut me off? :(
A group photo to wrap up the day

I had a great night out! Eating, drinking, catching up with one another... that's what life should be! :D Too bad some couldn't turn up... Till the next one ya?

New Baby Full Month Trends

It seems so that giving out boxes of cakes and goodies are more commonly practised nowadays than distributing Bengawan Solo's vouchers?

Here're two I've got recently... Happy 1st month to Baby Rachel Chng (born May 2008) and Baby Lewis Ong (born 09 June 2008)!

Cosfest @ Downtown East

You don't have to go Japan to experience Cosplay (or costume play) euphoria! If you went down to Downtown East on the 6th of July, you can catch a whole lot of cosplay action.

It was the first time we went down to the Cosfest event held in SG. Wow, am I impressed with the displays and the efforts that went into them. From the spectacular to the kawaii, you can catch a whole lot of anime characters, even Iron Man made an appearance as well.

Dinner with an old friend

DC was not free to have dinner with me (he went for his wine appreciation session with his colleagues), so I played a lighbulb and joined a friend with her husband for dinner.

Their baby was there too. She was very well-behaved; I was surprised that she could sit throughout the meal. Cute!

Friend brought me to a jap restaurant "Kado Man" at a corner of Grand Plaza Hotel. It was a small but authentic place, the setting reminds me of the sushi restaurants at Japan. Heard that the chef is a japanese. Also found out from the waitress that this restaurant has been operating for 13 years...

She recommended the ramen there but I preferred rice for dinner and tried the unagi rice set. Not too bad. We also ordered some side dishes and ended the meal with a scoop of green tea ice-cream. The green tea ice-cream was a little too milky I felt. Hmmm...$5 for a scoop with no topping, I don't think I would order it again the next time I go there.

After the dinner, I went to look for DC and had a pleasant surprise from him. He got a rose for me. :) Although the rose was taken from the wine session not bought by him, it felt exceptionally good to have received the flower from him. It's just so sweet! :)

Wine Appreciation Night

Had a wine appreciation night at my company. I think the mood's more like a party though. I'm no wine expert but I enjoyed the variety of wines. Not to mentioned, the food is fantastic, especially the home-cooked pork ribs. By the end of it, the 17 odd of us managed to finish about 12 bottles of reds and whites. I contributed a bottle of ice wine myself too.

The Legend Reconstructed

DC completed this korean series yesterday. Both of us were disappointed with the ending and decided to re-construct our very own ending...

The Background (Warning: SPOILER ahead!)
The story is based loosely on a korean myth, about a king, 2 women and 4 heavenly Gods.

桓雄: The son of the god in the heavenly world. He was said to have brought three Guardians of the world: the Blue Dragon(青龍), the White Tiger(白虎) and the Black Turtle-snake(玄武). His heavenly artifact is the Cheongung (天弓) which normally takes the form of a fancy cylinder and enlarges to form a glowing white bow. It is said to be able to either kill or give life to anyone it shoots. He returned to Heavaen and came back as Damdeok.

青龍: The ruler of the East and the guardian of the clouds, hence the alternative name Unsa (雲師: Cloudmaster). Its heavenly artifact is a bluish stone that looks slightly like a shellfish. It is said to activate when "The King of Jushin feels 'cold mercy' in his heart." When activated, it can weaken the power of the wielder of fire. It was also shown to speed the healing of its master when in physical contact with him.

白虎: The ruler of the West and the guardian of the winds, hence the alternative name Pungbaek (風伯: Windleader). Its heavenly artifact is a white twisted piece of metal. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'pure courage' in his heart."

玄武: The ruler of the North and the guardian of the rain, hence the alternative name Usa (雨師: Rainmaster). Its heavenly artifact is a black cylinder that is usually shaped as a long twisted walking stick. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'dark rage' in his heart." When it awakens, the time stops along with everything other than its master and the King of Jushin, enabling the leader of the Four Guardians to identify the King.

朱雀: The ruler of the South and the guardian of the fire. It is not a subordinate of 桓雄, and was portrayed as becoming evil when its 'host' is engulfed with anger. Its heavenly artifact is a large red gem orb. It awakens when "The King of Jushin feels 'burning passion' in his heart." It glows in red when activated.

Actual Ending:

Damdeok destroyed his Heavenly Bow and returned to Heaven. This action caused all the masters of the 4 heavenly artifacts (神物的主人) to die along with him. All his generals died, only Sujini and Damdeok's son survived the last battle.

Our very own version:

The 3 神物的主人 jointly fought the Dark Phoenix but could not defeat her. (This calls for lots of exciting actions and visual effects which we enjoyed.)

Having no choice, Damdeok eventually used his Heavenly Bow to kill her (just like what Hwang Woong did to Sae-Oh).

All his loyal generals (including the 3 神物的主人) lived and won the battle. Damdeok, Sujini and his son lived happily ever after.

Despite the unexpected ending, there are still reasons to watch the drama, the casts being one of them! :D I managed to find their current photos from the Internet. Lee Ji Ah is so pretty, Bae Yong Jun is as handsome as ever and... Hmm, Lee Philip looks very cool too!

This is also for the first time in Korea, a king has been associated with the Four Gods. King Gwanggaeto is generally considered as one of the greatest rulers in the history of Korea. The Four Guardians were found engraved in his tomb (as in any other king's), inspiring the drama. * For more info, visit here
