Baby Week 3 Update

His EDD was supposed to be today...

Week 3 - He started to have rashes on his face, CL said that was because he was feeding on breast milk and the heatiness from the food that I've been consuming during the confinement was transferred to him through the BM. I knew that it is common for babies to have rashes when they were born, so I wasn't really bothered by it. CL's theory matches what I read from the Net - that rashes or baby acnes could exist because of the mother's hormones passed to the fetus just before birth or to the infant during breastfeeding.

"During pregnancy, hormones from the mother's bloodstream enter the fetus' body through the placenta. These hormones cause certain conditions that are apparent at birth. In addition, breastfed infants receive maternal hormones in breast milk that may also cause certain conditions including the rashes that are normal, common and pose no risk to the baby."

He is ever more hungry than ever and would cry at the top of his lungs for milk every hourly! Sometimes, even less than one hour - in times like this, CL refused to prepare FM for him until it's time. I disagreed as I think we should feed him on demand. Once, I bought him into the room and tried to see if he wanted to be latched on. Hey, he took it without much fuss! It felt so heavenly! :) Nothing beats the stimulation from the baby (not even the best pump can achieve that), my milk supply increased significantly after the suckle! :) My spirit was lifted that day!

Since last week, he has the habit of putting his hands (wrapped in mittens) to his mouth whenever he felt hungry and started to lick them! Think it's one of his reflexes...

I started wrapping him with cloth nappies on Mon but because there were too many diapers around, MIL told CL to use up the diapers first... can't wait to get him on his nappies again! I just love infants with nappy on! :P

We had a scare on Mon and on National Day when DC caught him puking a mouthful of his milk. That mouthful could have choked him if we were not careful! *heartpain* Ever since then, we were always walking into the baby room and checking on him and making sure that he burped (loudly) before putting him back to his bed!

He started crying for attention on Fri and will stop whining once someone picks him up from his cot! So far, that's two times only and I hope he don't repeat this too often... we bought him a mini-hifi on Thu, will try to see if the music can soothe him...

DC has been doing the feeds when he came back from work and CL praised him for doing a good job. He was SO proud and happy of himself, you should have seen his face when he told me that! :) He's definitely doing much better than expected! Good job, Daddy! :)

We also started planning for his full month celebration this week, placing order for food and cakes. It has been decided to be held on 15 Aug 09 at our place and we have sent out invites to relatives and friends...
