Went for a post-op checkup at the gynae's.
Was told by him in the hospital that this was going to be quick - just change dressing and basic checkup will do, no need to queue at all. So, I asked sis to wait around thinking that it won't take very long.
The nurse cleaned the incision wound and told me that the wound was healing very well. I was happy for a while until she noticed a thread - a white thread - and told me that she may need to remove the thread for me. I thought all threads are dissolvable nowadays, no? I got a little panicky...
Then she told me that the thread looked different from the rest of the patients that she had seen. Their threads were black and mine was white and unnoticeable. She need to check with doc on whether the thread need to be removed. So, she left me lying on the bed and I waited for her to check with doc... *Why was I different from the others?*
After quite a while, another more experienced nurse came by and checked my wound. She, too, told me that the thread ought to be taken out. Asked if it would be painful, she said it may be!! *Scared*
She tried looking for a knot but could not find it any where. She didn't dare to do the removal without the knot and had to call for the doc for help! I almost freaked out when I heard that! Again, I was left lying there, fearful of what was coming... *Why me? Where had the knot gone to???*
Doc came after a long while and confirmed that the thread had to be removed. I tried to instigate him not to remove it but he tried to explain to me in a very very abstract way that I became even more confused after that. Anyway, I knew it was for my own good to have the stitch, a foreign object removed from my body and did not argue further. Luckily, the removal was done in an instant and there was negligible pain.
Although the stitch removal was not as painful as I expected but the process of waiting in fear and knowing that my case was an exceptional one (the type of thread used and the missing knot) was quite a scary one. I had a great fright! No more scares on the next followup please!
On a side note, the gynae overcharged me for the delivery fees and I claimed it back from him today (medication free)... a caution to all: do check your bills!
