Will I be able to do it?

Saw this poster at a number of bus stops. I can recognise Mr Tang Wing Kee's face anytime. He's sort of the terror master in my secondary school but those who know him a bit more will say otherwise. Anyway, it's good to see that he's still healthy and living an active lifestyle. Looks like he's a rollerblading instructor now ... I can't even rollerblade. I wonder if I can do that many years down the road ...

Highly anticipated : Transformers 2

Boy oh boy, am I looking forward to it! The Autobots are greatly outnumbered in strength! Just look at the Decepticons list. They are going to feature Scorponok (again) and Devastator, which confirmed my guess from the trailer!

In the cartoons, Scorponok is supposedly the size of a small city, able to house many Decepticons. I wonder if it will be able to transform this time round.

Devastator is actually made up of individual Decepticons combined - the Constructicons! This is the first mammoth to feature in the cartoons.

Wow, there's Shockwave, and Ravage! I can't wait to catch them on the big screen!

Terminator

Terminator Salvation

Cast: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin
Director: McG
Genre:Action/ Adventure
Language: English
Release Date:28 May 2009
Running Time:116 minutes
Movie Code:7877
Distributor:CTS

The highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise is set in post-apocalyptic 2018. John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future that Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

DC: I thought it's highly watchable despite poor reviews. The cameo appearance of Arnie through CGI effects does brings back memories. The story makes you want more, to know how the Resistance is going to defeat Skynet. It could go the other way though, where each subsequent movie is just another battle with no end in sight. That could wear off on the audience.

There are also various scenes in the movie which makes reference to the previous instalments. You'll know if you have catch Terminator 1 and 2. I love the Gun n Roses' song!

Into my third trimester!

I'm into my third and final trimester, yeah!

Arranged an appointment with my gynae today and he commented that I looked prosperous! What? I think that's the word no pregnant mothers like to hear... I hope I don't hear the same from him on my next visit 3 weeks later!

Baby A is now 1.4kg and he predicted my baby will be between 2.6 and 3kg at the time of delivery, which was what I wanted. :)

I did not wait very long today unlike other days...Before I went in, heard that the gynae received a call from the hospital. After the checkup, I told DC about it and guessed that it could be the hospital notifying him that one of his patients is due for delivery... Didn't think much about it but when we went for our antenatal class today, we were showed around the delivery suite and DC saw his name on one of the doors! This confirmed my earlier guess that he was going for labour! :) Luckily our appointment was not affected for I heard that it's common for gynaes to postpone prior appointment made if they are on call.

Talking about the antenatal class, we were showed two videos of the labour process and it really sent shivers down my spine... It was different from what I had imagined and I suddenly feel like backing out but DC was rather intrigued by the process (esp. the baby's first cry)!

The hospital tour at the end of the class was rather fun - It felt like school excursion. We were given orientation of the nurseries, the different wards, the deluxe room, the 2-bedded room and lastly, the delivery suite. Will discuss this with DC but we definitely have a better idea of which ward to choose and what to prepare for labour after this class.

Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vaticans only hope for survival.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nice piece of work, the film is fast-paced with an unexpected twist at the end! Both of us enjoyed the show very much! ;)
Baby A was active inside my stomach towards the end of the movie, he's like pushing his body out and wanting to come out, causing some discomfort... just good I had a chance to use the SOS breathing technique taught in the class. Hang in there baby, just 2 months more and mummy & daddy will see you soon... ;)
Antenatal Class - 3rd Lesson
It's matwork again this session. We learnt about the signs of labour, different stages of labour and breathing techniques.
The breathing techniques look easy enough but i don't know if i could still remember when it's my time for delivery! Anyway, these are just good to know cos I'm believing for a supernatural childbirth... Towards the end of the class, DC and I (and the rest) did a nice therapeutic relaxation exercise, back-to-back, lights off, soothing music playing in the background with sounds of birds, frogs and crickets... felt very relaxed...Hmm, maybe it's time to bring out our aroma oils that are tucked away in the corners of our house! :)
Not as easy as it seems
About two weeks ago, my friend asked me to help her take some photos of swarvoski jewellery that she want to sell online. I said why not, although i had next to zero experience in product shoots.
Boy, am I in for a shock. I had to groped with different lenses before I settled for my Tamron macro. It's fortunate I had almost a lens for every occasion. Next comes the product placement and the lightings. After many tries, I still could not get it right. Without the proper light strobes, it was challenging. Furthermore, the crystals and the stainless steel material had a tendency to reflect and refract light.
So I researched a bit on the web and someone had a ingenious way of doing it. Set a long shutter speed, turn off all the lights, fire the external camera flash on the top, left and right of the light tent. In the end I even do away with the light tent. This is the final result.
4 years!
We are married for four years, it sounds cliche but time moves so fast.
Since there's a mid-week service on Wednesday, we decided to have the dinner celebration one day later, on the 21st-May.
Nothing too grand but we thought Prego will be quite nice. We bought like the tiramisu there and previous ventures there were quite alright.
Veal Tonnato
Diavola Pizza - Slightly spicy, salami and chilli
Tortelli - Zucca E Burro
Tiramisu
Cannolo - Thumbs Up!!! Someone once said that you should always try the cannoli in a Italian restaurant.
Looks like they are already prepped up for the F1 race. In the lobby of Prego.
My anniversary gift. Too bad I have nothing for CP ... oops ... She tricked me! We both agreed not to get any gifts! Anyway, all my cufflinks are from her.
Tummy trembles
Happened to see it on my way to work - My tummy trembles with each fetal movement!
Not that I'm slow in detecting the movements, I can feel fetal movement since 15 or 16 weeks i think but this is the first time I see (not feel) it in action! My tummy moves! It was such an amazing feeling!
Showed DC when we were at our mid-week service. He, too was very amazed and can't get his hands off my stomach... :)
Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, and John Cho star as the rest of the original series' characters, while Eric Bana plays the Enterprise crew's nemesis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We went to watch this movie after the pre-natal lesson. This was the only time we feel that it was a good thing GV starts its movies late cos we managed to catch the beginning even though we were 20 mins late!

I guess the words "Awesome" and "Must watch" could be used to describe this movie? DC said it was his "Movie of the Year" thus far.

Antenatal Class - 2nd Lesson

Today's lesson focuses on back care and introduces exercises that we could do to prevent back aches and cramps. Most of the exercises were easy except for one which I have a little difficulty - the one with movements like the MJ dance. DC was with me and insisted that I practice until I know... DC showed that he could do all the exercises that were taught, including the MJ movement. I had quite a good laugh at his enthusiasm. :)

Towards the end of the class, different massages were taught and the hubbies were supposed to practise the techniques on their wives. While I see the other husbands cautiously administering the strokes on their wives, DC was there playing and having his fun tickling and poking me... But I tell you, when he got into serious work, it just felt heavenly! Never realised that his hands were that warm and huge... he makes a good massager, strength just nice! :D

It was a fun session, of course we enjoyed the sandwiches during the tea break too. :P

Mas Selemat Captured

Singapore's biggest fugitive was finally caught! News was released on 30 Apr 09. According to the papers, the Malaysian authorities received tip off from Singapore and caught him in Johor on 1 Apr, one month before the news was released.

It has now been 12 days since the arrest and I'm still seeing him on headlines everyday... He must be the biggest news after the Swine Flu and Economic Recession... and it's a happy one unlike the latter two. The journalists are surely gonna get the most value out of him before he's locked up for good in the Whitley detention centre and case closed.

Be Short and Cool

I finally cut my long hair short. Can't stand the humid weather and heat in my body! (this is so unlike me who used to be able to walk 10 mins under hot sun and not sweat at all...)

Hair length is now halved, slightly touching shoulder, and fringe is now short, DC thinks I look like a student in this hairstyle. I think it's good to have a drastic hairstyle change once for a while although my best short hairstyle is still the bob and red-dyed hair two years ago.

Short is good, it feels light and cool... :P Hope this will hold till end of my confinement month after the delivery.

Maid - To have or not to have?

We heard enough stories about maids these few days... here's the recollection:

7 May 09, Thu - When we were at DC's aunt's place, I was advised by DC's cousin's wife to opt for maids that are not too old as they may have their own method of doing things and might be difficult to teach. They were fortunate to have a maid whom they were satisfied with. In comparison, the sister's maid was not as good.

8 May 09, Fri - During lunch, my RO shared about her experiences with her past and present maids; how her first maid of two years became very distracted after she got a handphone, how she found out about her second maid's boyfriend through a phone call.

9 May 09, Sat - Got to know that DC's brother had a new maid on Sat and this was his third one (in less than six months). The earlier two maids quit (first one was unable to help them take care of their twins and the second one just wants to quit). The new one cannot cook although she claimed she could during the interview!

10 May 09, Sun - DC's ex-boss came for a short visit and she shared her bad experiences with us regarding her maids. The best joke is that she had gotten a maid who could read well but could not understand her simple instructions! There were also maids who stole food and refused to admit and those who sneaked time to get together and party with their fellow friends instead of doing their work...

11 May 09, Mon - DC heard from his good friend this morning that his current maid is quitting and he's looking for a replacement maid.

Seems like getting a good maid is really very difficult these days... DC and I almost decided on getting one to help with the housework but after hearing these first-hand accounts and media reports of maids abusing babies, I think we better think twice about this. In fact, I was shocked to hear that maids nowadays can quit without valid reason! From what we heard, as much as we get to choose our maid, the maid also has the right (given by MOM) to choose the employers! Even the bio-data could be falsely documented, I wonder what's the probability of getting a good maid, one who is serious about working for u?

Back to Sars days

Just about a month ago during lunch, we colleagues were talking and joking about the days during the sars period. Who would have thought then that the swine flu, H1N1 Influenza A virus aka Mexican Flu would hit the world without warning?

We were suddenly taken back to the old Sars days where daily temperature readings had to be taken and the daily reports of death rates all over the world left everyone in a state of constant fear that anyone around us may have already caught and passed on the virus to us. Just a sneeze (cough for sars) would be enough to arouse fear and suspicions...

There was then a turn of events on 11 May 09 where Singapore's alert level was lowered to Yellow from Orange and daily temperature readings were not necessary after we learnt that the situation is not as bad as it seems. Thank God, we were able to breathe a little better with the relaxed rules although we were told we shouldn't let our guard down and must continue to observe personal hygiene... Up to date, there was no case of confirmed case in Singapore although Mexico and US had more and more cases confirmed. Sooner or later, it will surface in Singapore... till then, let's give our government the confidence to fight the virus and trust God for divine protection! :)

I will dwell in the secret place
Of the Most High
I will stay in the shadow
Of Your wings
For Lord You are my refuge
My tower of strength
My hope is in You
Secure I stand

You will deliver me
Your truth will be my shield
Jesus You cover me
In Your love no fear prevails

No evil, no terror
No arrow, no Plague
Shall ever come near me
For You are my safety
My hiding place
Jesus I trust in You

Jam in the Neighbourhood

There is a funeral wake in the vicinity. Due the large number of people who came to pay their respect to the deceased, it has caused a mini jam at the carpark. Basically, the road is reduced to one lane and cars were stuck getting in or out. I was wondering when the horns will start blazing ...

I saw a police car but I doubt the police can do much.

Antenatal Class - 1st Lesson

First antenatal class today. I wonder why they had to arrange the session on a weekday at 6:30pm? It was kinda rush and I had to take time off to attend the class. Had to have our temperature taken in the hospital because of the swine flu and after paying for the course fees, we were 10 mins late when we reached the lecture room. The course materials were all distributed and we could only get the booklet on the next lesson.

The first lesson today covers food and nutrients: what should be taken during pregnancy and how much to take, etc. The session was quite light, not very in depth and most of the things covered were already known either through gynae or my gp... I thought it was quite late a stage for us to know this now but of course, there were some good points that I took back and hopefully can apply...

I'm glad DC came with me today and hope the class (not only today's but the next few that are to come) will give him some basic idea of what to expect and how to take better care of me during the 3rd trimester, haha! :)

Mr Handyman

I always believe that a house cannot go without a Mister Handyman and Miss wondermaid. Too bad, I'm not the kind of housemaid I hope to be but thank God DC is the most wonderful handyman that he has given me! :)

I can safely count on him for works like plumbing, electrical installations, PC and furniture assembly, etc...

Today, he found our bedroom's toilet pipe to be slightly clogged and without further ado, he bought me to NTUC after dinner to get pumps and tools and wow, he fixed the problem. No need for any plumber who will charge exorbitantly (for your info, we know of some plumber who charges $500 for what it takes DC only $16 to fix the pipe problem)... Good job, man! :D

6th Checkup

The checkups are getting so routine that we could predict what he would do and say...

What's new today:

1. Baby A was doing fine. He analysed the ultrasound report we did last month at TMC and said he was happy of the results. :)

2. He took a 3-D scan of A! It's the first time I've seen a 3D image of my boy but too bad, he was not very co-operative. The face was blocked by his hand most of the time! No point buying the photos...

3. When asked if I need another re-test, he said no because the infection was not severe. Glad I'm cleared! :)

4. All the nurses and the gynae wore mask today (precautionary measure for swine flu)... he cautioned me against going to crowded places just like everyone else (my gp, my dear mummy, etc). The doc's mask came with checks, it was quite funny seeing him with a patterned mask, I wonder where he got it from?

Wolverine dominated the box office this weekend

By looking at the number of showtimes they have and the great sold out they have for this newly released film, you would have known that this week's box office is dominated by none other than X-Man Wolverine. We have been wanting to watch The International for a week but only have the time to watch it this week but we realised that the show time for the International was very limited (so that they can screen Wolverine or response for The International was no good? This we can't be sure...). In the end, we caught Wolverine on Fri and tried our luck on Sat for The International... Our verdict: Wolverine reins (The x-men fan likes it while I like Hugh Jackman fab bod :P ) and The International was a disappointment (because of the upsetting ending).

Hand-me-downs

On Labour Day today, we did some labour work... hehe not too hard work actually... we went to a cousin's place to collect hand-me-downs for baby A.

We were really very surprised by the enormous things that she handed down to us! The baby clothes, toys and travelling essentials...These definitely saved us a lot of time and money to choose and buy aside the fact that babies outgrow these in a very fast time frame! I'm truly grateful for these precious; we don't mind hand-me-downs and welcome more of them. :)

We've been too slack these months but now that we have gathered some hand-me-downs, next will be to compile the shopping list, to clear up our guest room and convert it into a decent baby room, this definitely means more work to do before the baby is born...
